Whereas I routinely think speed limits are lower than they should be... therefore I routinely exceed them.
I'm with Sliver - I'm convinced that speed limits that were established 50 years ago when the average car did 0-60 in 15 seconds and took 400 feet to stop from 100km/h could use a reconsideration...

In that same time period human reaction time remained unchanged. Human perception of high speeds remained flawed, animals reaction times and behaviour also unchanged. So while the vehicle can stop faster, all of the other reasons people crash are still there.
Also road fatalities per km are down significantly over the past 70 years we could use some of this margin to increase speed.

I'm guessing it doesn't fit and hangs onto the sidewalk, which would then actually be illegal.

I’d be surprised if that was the case as it doesn’t seem longer than the full sized extended cabs that are everywhere on driveways in the city but you could be right.

I have no issue with it being on the street, but park it in front of your own house

If this is true (and I have no reason to doubt it) and the OPs truck is similar to the picture posted then I think the GVWR requirement isn't met. I think enough calls to parking would probably get them to come out.
As an alternative, you could talk to the guy and mention his vehicle is overweight for a residential street, and maybe he could park it on his driveway.
I agree the roads are for everyone, but if there's a spot by your house and you park your work truck somewhere else then YATA.

Being behind someone on a turn ramp who is merging onto a busy major road going 10-15 km under the limit. Firstly, they're going to struggle to merge. And in turn they're going to make it doubly hard for you to merge also.
1000x easier to get in if you get yourself up to the same speed as the traffic on that road. Instead you turn us both into massive hazards for people who can't merge left to make space for us.

How can people be so brainless?

Seriously, well done on outwardly controlling your rage in front of your son. It takes real self control to be that disciplined when you just want to unleash hell - and rightfully so.

Seems like my gear grinder about the truck might actually be a little more legit than I first thought? The picture timun posted is quite accurate, though the one this guy drives is a bit older and beat up.
To be honest, I think the only thing that really annoys me about the situation is he parks in front of our house and then walks away to his house. He knows it's a big ugly truck and doesn't want it in his driveway or in front of his house. If the guy lived a few homes away I probably wouldn't have an issue.

I was looking in the by-law briefly and couldn't find this. I would be curious to know where this is stated? If this is actually a rule I would definitely start reporting him.

There's two that would kinda apply, the truck route bylaw in Calgary would be a commercial vehicle with a registered weight over 5450kg, parked off of a truck route. Particularly between 1900 and 0700. Then there is also a really small fine for one over 4500kg parked in a residential area, then I think it's double if it's between certain hours at night.
But you'd have to be really bad to actually ever get that ticket in something as small as a one ton or even something like an F550. Like all bylaws it's completely discretionary about whether to ticket or not and I doubt it would happen in this situation unless the guy was being a real ass, for a long time. Plus there's like, a million exemptions and exceptions
If you want to read into it more it would all be a part of the truck route bylaw, not the traffic bylaw

So are there no other parking spaces between where he left the truck and his own place? I suppose the only valid reason would be if he or any neighbours are getting landscaping or construction done and need that truck moved elsewhere, but if that isn’t the case, could just leave a note on the truck saying you see it there everyday and there isn’t enough room for visitors’ vehicles.

Something doesn’t have to be illegal to be a legitimate gear grinder. When I read your first post I agreed it was a solid gear grinder.

Might it be functionally easier for him to park near you instead of his place? Like would he be looking at a 5 point turn every morning from his own house, but can simply drive away from the other spot?

I went to the bathroom in the office the other day and there was a dude watching Netflix? YouTube? In one of the stalls at full volume.
Like, ya at least it wasn’t porn but it still seems odd. Wear headphones or browse Reddit in silence like a normal person you freak.

There's dudes where I work where they do this in the lunch room. Watching FB videos and Tiktok stuff at volume when you want silence. We have a good working relationship and I don't want to rock the boat, but secretly they should be waterboarded...

Seriously. I got a cheap no-name set of wireless headphones from amazon for $30, throw one in one ear and leave the other so you can still hear stuff around you.
How clueless do you need to be to think that playing volume from your phone speaker publicly is acceptable
