My Prediction for the 2021-22 season
Up to this point in the off-season (August 11), I've come to the conclusion that the Calgary Flames have not significantly improved in terms of additions or subtractions of players/personnel [they may have gotten worse with no Giordano]. My predictions are based on last season's [2021] records against Canadian teams and the previous season's [2020] records against American teams. Seattle is hard to predict, but I assume Calgary will be .500 against Seattle by default. This will be the most "Calgary Flames" season, as they'll switch between winning streaks and losing streaks like a light bulb. Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan or Matthew Tkachuk will probably be traded for little or no value (like Iginla) or leave in free agency/offer-sheeted. Assuming 95/96 points is the minimum to make the playoffs, the Flames will miss the 2022 playoffs and will probably not participate in the draft lottery due to the new lottery rules. Thus the pain of being a Flames fan continues on, unless they get Jack Eichel in a trade. Any opinions???

Offseason isn't over.
Most importantly, full training camp and season of Darryl Sutter.

Yep. Flames have a cup winning coach (one of the best in the game) instead of a bunch of Jabronis. That will make the biggest difference. Darryl always gets the most out of rosters.

I think the Flames will make the playoffs. I think they will be competitive.
I think they will provide some entertainment. I think they will lose in the first round.

OP: I am going to make a bunch of predictions that have a worst case scenario as the outcome. Then I will conclude that the only solution to my imagined outcomes is Eichel.
Discuss.
We already have this covered in the Eichel thread, no?

I hope it's too early to make any predictions yet. Lots of off season left and Treliving should not be done changes yet.

hard to know. A few data points we have now:
Coleman and Zadorov in, Gio and Ryan out.
hoping for some bounce back years from Monahan, Tkachuk and Markstromm
Hoping for continued growth in Hanifin, Andersson and Valimaki
not a lot to judge at this point, but nothing, at the moment, that suggests a massive upgrade or downgrade.
Feels like another year fighting for the 9,8,7 spots...

Flames will make the playoffs, make a surprise run, and win it all.

It's a bit tough to say but as things stand right now I think the Flames will be in the playoff race until the end of the season but if they're slightly better than I'm thinking they could have a playoff spot secured with a few games remaining.
I like Darryl Sutter as a coach and everything but I'm not sure his style is going to get it done with this group of players. It's just hard hockey to play along the boards and it was quite noticeable in a few games last season.

I just hope things go right so there is a reason to get excited. If we get a repeat of last year I can see myself losing interest fast.

Robuchon and a 'put it in the win column' Flames game. Sounds like an awesome night.

My opinion is this thread had no point except to help push the negativity so many seem to get off on. My prediction is the Flames make the playoffs and go on a run and it makes the miserable doomsayers on this board even more miserable.
