Default Buying a UCP membership leads to spam calls and emails

So I bought a membership just so I could vote for the next premier, and because there is a a candidate I don't wantt to become premier.

I bought the membership online, gave my cell number, email, and since then I've been spammed with so many unwelcome texts, automated phone calls surveys, it seems the UCP distributed my contanct info multiple ways.

I might even warm to the NDP I am so upset with them. I didn't invite all this annoyance I just wanted to vote. There are two UCP candidates I like, but one of them texted me to ask if they had my support. That candidate is now off my list, leaving one.

Has anyone else had this problem? And now I'm in a database it appears anyone can access.

Yes. It was abundantly clear to me right away that UCP and other groups/candidates/organizations sell/share call lists and information. I’ve received SO many spam calls

Yup. I was quite sorry I signed up. The last time I did it was to vote for anyone but Ted Morton. Times are sure different I should have used a burner email. But I found the "unsubscribe" button actually works.

Just buy one for your 'friend'. You can do that with the UCP.

Hell, buy two or three.

I joined the Conservatives about 8 years back, quit about 5 years back and I still get a bunch of fund raising calls to the point, where I'm literally hanging up on them.

I joined the UCP party and gave both a fake/secondary number (using Fongo) and a second email address I have specifically for spam. I'm happy to say I joined specifically to vote for anybody but Danielle Smith.

I joined the federal Conservatives many years ago to vote against Rob Anders (and then the party cancelled the nomination meeting and acclaimed him). I still not only get emails and calls from the federal party, but also the UCP.

I'm a member of both the Liberal and Green parties and don't get any spam or soliciting. Other than a few emails every week with updates about the party and current parliamentary issue, I don't get bothered at all.

I have been trying to find a way to poison the phone number in my own database record to avoid getting texts from these idiots. And I didn't even sign up.

I haven't joined any of them but still get the occasional text from the UCP and the NDP. I think they just text every number in existence.

I joined the PC party to vote for Gary Mar, so about 10 or so years ago. To this day I get e-mail. I don't get phone calls, though.

Same here. Also got fundraising requests in the mail on a weekly basis.
I started writing in fake donations: like $50,000 but then writing in a credit card number that didn't exist.

For their "surveys" I voted against any issue they obviiusly wanted to promote.

Everything came to me in prepaid envelopes do they were pretty much paying for me to spam them!

FYI - deadline to join to be able to vote in the upcoming leadership race was Aug 12.

I meant to join, but didn't join for the exact same reason as the OP.

Yeah buying a membership to any party, provincial or federal, leads to exactly this.

Hell of a way to encourage people to get involved eh?

It's pretty easy to stop them from happening (just unsubscribe or call them back and say hey - quit it), but yeah - it's a pain.
