Apparently tailgate stealing is a thing, They are super expensive, and really easy to steal if the gate isn't locked, which mine wasn't because the lock isn't automatic, and I didn't have anything in the back. Not to mention I didn't think someone would just walk away with a door.
I heard about this a couple years ago. It is a big underground market apparently. There was a lot of reported cases where tailgates were being ripped off.

Always lock your tailgate, they’ll steal the lights as well. Ask me how I know.

No, at the risk of being razzed on this board, it is a white superduty

Turns out F250 tops the stolen tailgate list , lucky me

Lowers it slowly and has the secondary effect of making it was tougher to steal.
Amazon says that particular item doesn't fit my truck, but I have found other products, and even something as simple as a hose clamp would make it magnitudes harder to steal.

I will now, but another GG is that my truck is a lariat, has almost every conceivable convenience you can get in a truck (humble brag) but the tail gate lock isn't automatic with the rest of the truck?

Come on Ford, even Dodge has that one figured out.

Because you’re the guy who stole gasman’s tailgate?

Flight delayed five hours is a gear grinder.

Now sitting on tarmac after arriving and waiting one hour and counting because no gates are available. This is unbearable and no end in sight.

It's actually amazing how easy it is to pop off a tailgate. If it's not locked you can have it in hand in 15 seconds

Damn, now we're missing a tailgate and a gate.

What year? My '14 Platinum had it, my '18 Lariat even had remote opening tailgate. And my new Chev has it too.

I got caught in Seattle over the summer because of the smoke delaying flights. My 9:30 am departure to Calgary turned into a 6:30 pm departure. Still that's not the worst as I've had to spend 15 hours in the Minneapolis airport and I really hate airports as it's a day of your life flushed down the toilet that you will never get back.

That's crazy about the tailgate. I have a locking tailgate on my '16 F-150 and it drives me nuts. I can't figure out how to disable it, either. It's annoying when I walk up to the truck and need to put something in the bed, but have to fish out my keys first. It'd be nice to have the option to lock it, but it not be locked every time the truck is locked.

Is there a fuse you can pull for it?

there has to be power to some kind of actuator inside the tail gate. just open up your tail gate (i think my truck has 10 or so screws on a panel) and disconnect the power

Yeah, but I want the option to lock it. When I have tools or whatever in the box, I want to lock it. It's a work truck, so that happens often enough that I need it (I have a topper, too). Maybe press lock once locks all the doors, and press lock a second time to lock the tailgate, too? I just don't want it to lock every time. If the box is empty, I don't need it locked - in fact, I don't want it locked because if it's empty it means I'll have to open it again to put stuff in. Usually that means my hands are full, which makes fishing around for a key annoying.

Oh yeah, and the other annoying thing about it is if the truck is in park and running, keep the GD tailgate unlocked. So many times I've stopped somewhere, put the truck in park (while running) and then gone to the tailgate only to see that it's locked, then I have to go back to the cab and unlock it. It's really fricking annoying.
