I suspect my landlord is not paying tax on my rent

I was pretty tired of all of the election signs as well but I didn't phone 311 3 times in the few weeks that they were out. I knew that it would be over once the election was over.

Did you phone the candidate who owned the signs first?

What are some other reasons that you phoned 311? Did you talk to the people affected first?

My calls were for my own benefit. To clarify the sign by-laws, as there are 3 separate laws that are applicable and they aren't very clear.

As it was I got different answers and eventually a by-law officer called me back and was very helpful.

The only other time I recall calling them was about dog licensing (again, for my own benefit) this would have been in 2007.

Ah. Okay. I see I was not clear in my original question. I meant how many times did you call 311 to file a complaint about somebody else for a bylaw violation. Which you answered already. The answer is zero. Good. I take back my negative opinion about you on this. :>)

BTW, I was also very surprised how many people on here think that somehow "screwing the government" is not really a crime. I am often amazed how people think that tax fraud doesn't affect them. Just remember that every time someone doesn't pay there taxes the rest of us are left forking the bill.

Otherwise you go and sell a property that isn't your permanent address and you're going to have to pay capital gains. Guess what happens when you file for capital gains on a property you've owned for 10 years and never filed any taxes for? Audit time. Oh, and suggesting someone just wouldn't file for capital gains is also silly. They find out pretty easily about that.

The biggest thing you're overlooking is one of the very few benefits of a rental property can be the fact they are a tax write off because you are almost always bleeding cash on the stupid effing things. If somehow you are actually cash flow positive its not going to be much. Not nearly enough to justify the risk of not paying tax on it.

Also to his character the landlord is a dreaded oilfield worker!
