Default Spam Calls - Rogers

I am getting about 20+ calls per day - usually from numbers in the USA. They leave voice mail, but there is no message. If I block a number, I am soon called from another number.

Rogers Wireless said there is not much I can do - some computer dialer is targeting me and they think it will eventually stop.

How can I stop this insanity? I just had 13 calls this morning. It is annoying to keep clearing my voice mail.

Does Rogers not offer call control?

If you're not familiar with, any caller that is not on your "white list" is asked to enter a number between 1 and 10 to continue call. Completely stops robo callers. I have not had 1 call like that since activating it.

Call control? Amazing, never heard of it before but just looked it up on Telus and am activating it now!

The one thing to do if you plan on not answering, just answer and then hang up again within a second. Not sure if it still works, but it used to let the auto-dialer know the number isn't working.

Ask if Rogers will give you visual voicemail or whatever the android equivalent is. You can at least the the voicemail as an audio file on your phone and can delete easily without the rigamarole of having to listen, fast forward, delete, next...

On the iPhone the messages are transcribed, which is nice.

I've gotten about 10 spam calls with Koodo so far today. I just recently got a new phone a couple of days ago, and all spam calls are from a local number (403 area code) and have the same first three digits as my phone number (589). Strange coincidences... anyone else experienced anything similar? They are all from different phone numbers so I'm unable to resolve by just blocking one or two of these callers.

I will get numerous calls from one number, a few minutes apart - as soon as I block, another number will start calling me. 16 calls each from two numbers in California yesterday. 7 from a BC number today, then it switched to a NY number.

It's like a Hydra - cut off a head, and more heads grow back.

I don't get the purpose of these calls - there is no one on the other end, and no message in the voice mail. Is someone harassing me just for kicks?

No. Probably just seeing if the lines are active. You’ll probably get visited by more spammers if you answer.
