As long as the Jays have more 10 run innings, I'm okay with that

Down 6-2 going into their half of the inning, up 12-6 going to the top of the 7th. I love baseball.

That was literally the first inning of blue jays baseball I've watched in about a month and a half. Amazing.

This team is unreal. But I have to air a beef...
Panik was batting .500 in his last 5 games (9 for 18) and he walked at least 2 or 3 times, so an OBP of well over .500. The Jays are playing their most important game of the season, with their 2 best hitters on the IL.
So what does Montoyo do? He decides to give him the day off - gotta cool that man down!
The Jays have 2 days off in the next 7 days, so giving guys the day off is pretty pointless. But your hottest hitter? Just unfathomable.
Montoyo doing Montoyo things.
But this team don't care, they just keep finding new and amazing ways to win ballgames! Funnest team in a long time.

Except in a key moment he has him pinch hit. Panik has a great at bat and draws a walk, which effectively put another run on the board for Jansen's homer along with putting even more pressure on the pitcher with the bases loaded. Panik replaced Espinal who was the guy that drew the lead off walk to start the inning. So even though Espinal did good things, Montoyo knew enough to put Panik in for a key at bat.
Everything worked out okay. It's not like Montoyo is entirely clueless out there. He seems to know the game well but makes a questionable decision now and then. That's par for the course with every single manager. Damned if they do...

The point is these players in this condensed schedule need some days off. So we’re almost never going to field our optimal lineup. I would guess we’ll get closer to that in games against the Yankees with more key players off in other games.
Edit: to elaborate on what Cali said I’ve heard feedback from Jays fans recently on both “they should have pulled him after 5” and “they should have kept them in!”. Same thing for relievers and 1ip. Thing is all us fans see is what’s on the field so our judgement of managers is on lineup and tactical decisions. We don’t see anything of the other parts of the job so we are slanted in that view. Which leads to lots of people calling Montoya a moron because they don’t do the on field decision they agree with.

It probably had more to do with a lefty starting.

A couple games ago during the broadcast they said that the days off are scheduled by upper management and they don't think Montoyo has the power to change it.

I think the front office is hands on with a lot of the line up decisions being made to be honest. I wouldn't be surprised if they have pretty set protocols when it comes to pitch counts with the starters too, or at least how many times each guy can pitch through a batting order, stuff like that.
Other than Ryu though, our starters actually kind of suck. Hopefully Taijuan Walker keeps doing what he's doing too, because I have very low confidence in any of Roark, Anderson, Stripling, Ray or even Shoemaker when he comes back. I certainly wouldn't be very confident with any of those guys starting a playoff game at this point. Things can change though I guess.
