The Mastodon cameo is the only acceptable one.

I had no idea who Ed Sheeran was before reading about the backlash of him being on GOT. I thought he fit into the universe well. Didn't notice anything particularly unusual about him, though he clearly had a good voice.

If you're comparing those to Sheerans in notorerity and gratuitousness, i don't know where to start. I mean the Coldplay drummer on a balcony and sheeran winking at the camera saying "it's new" ? Come on!!

You're making things up. The episode is still on the PVR so I had to quickly go and look to confirm. He never winked and he certainly never looked at the camera and did it. Sheeren's character looked stone cold and Arya, never blinking and said "it's a new one". Crazy people.

whatever, I'm just glad the Lannister soldiers have a new song finally after 7 years. I don't know how many more times I could stomach one of them warbling The Rains of Castamere like it was #1 on their medieval summer hits chart. they even had a dude singing that to one of the girls at Littlefinger's brothel for crying out loud...wow nothing gets me in the mood for sex like a tale about the slaughter of a traitorous family.

Haha, sure! I just saw a post on Facebook from HBO, shared from Sheeran, that mentioned it a part of his album.

Suppose I missed the subtle sarcasm?

Either way, this cameo was commercially planned. Shameful, but hardly worth the accompanied outrage.

He's the male version of Taylor Swift. No wonder they are BFF's.

The old tweets in the link Troutman posted makes Sheeran sound like a d-bag.

I'm a fan of Sigur Ros and Mastodon. I thought it was cool that they were on the show, but I didn't notice it was them while watching because they didn't have their gigantic heads taking up the whole screen. That really took me out of the scene. Hopefully any future cameos will be a little more subtle.

Here's a good summary of the book origins of the song that Sheeran is singing: http://screenrant.com/game-thrones-e...an-cameo-song/

Yes, it's about stuff from the books, but there's nothing mentioned that hasn't already happened on the show or that deviates from the story on the show.

Way too much Sheeran talk in this thread. Lets get another episode on quickly so we can re focus on what actually matters and stop talking about this turd.

Been thinking more about the Arya/campfire scene. I think the main point of the scene was to make Arya feel guilty about her actions towards the Freys. She had a weird awkward smile on her face through the scene, which I know think was guilt.

Arya initially went on her quest to seek revenge against the brutal murderers in her own history. When she kills an entire room full of Freys, she essentially becomes what she hated. Sure some of them were probably guilty, but many were probably just normal people who may or may not have had all that involvement or choice in the matter. The Lannister soldiers illustrate this. Her initial instinct was to grab her weapon and slaughter them, but she becomes disarmed by the singing....so yes, the singing did serve a purpose.

Hmm, don't agree.

I think it was having a meal with them that ultimately sealed their fate. Her initial instinct is to clutch her weapon because she is a young girl alone in the land of rape and honey.

She just slaughtered all the Freys for breaking bred and then massacring her family, I don't think she was about to turn around and do the same thing.

Ya, I don't think there was any intent to show growing sympathy for the Freys. I think that it was just a moment to stop a dangerous slide in Arya, and allow her to retain some humanity - she'll still want to murder Cersi, but now may not see everyone marching under Lannister colors as equally deserving of slaughter.

Not the Freys specifically, but humanity in general.

Seemed to be an ongoing theme in the show. John forgives the Carstarks and Umbers and cites that those actually responsible for the bad decisions were dead.

I think she'll still want to kill Cersei, but would be less likely to gather every Lanister in one room and kill them all, like she did with the Freys.

Who's left on her list now, it's certainly more than just Cersei.

She probably still thinks the Hound is dead.
