Just watched the third period which was rather meh. Nothing overly alarming but was surprised, as others have mentioned, to see Gio acting as kind of the PP quarterback. I don't see that lasting too long.

All in all, this should be a good experience for the club.

And oh yeah, the crosscheck on Ryan really pisses me off. Maybe because I see that in bantam and midget hockey all the time and its just stupid and dirty.

What a lemon.
Then you're officially jaded.

He set up Jankowski for a one timer, hammered two Bruins on good hits and was around the puck all night.

What are you honestly expecting?

As I said jaded, or expectations way out of whack.

This is where we're going to miss Dougie Hamilton. Flames will have to give up big assets to acquire something they already had.

Yeah I'm really not that high on Bennett anymore, but he did play a good game tonight.

Never saw Hamilton run the powerplay in his time here.

When the team only generated a single goal, it is not fair to say the goalie wears the goat horns.

Brodie or Hanifin can do the job.

Or change the way Giordano runs it.

It's 2018 you can't just stand there at the top of the umbrella with your feet not moving and expect a modern PK to not get set and take away all your options.

He needs to skate the puck to the left halfway, send Lindholm into the slot and have Gaudreau take the puck to the top of the umbrella. If Gaudreau keeps going they switch sides.

But you can't just stand there.

It’s quite clear at this point there are a number of “fans” on this board who have no objectivity when it comes to Bennett and just hate on him even when undeserved. Making this board hard to read.

Doh, i pvr'd the game but accidentally opened the score app on my phone.

Disappointed in the limited offensive output. Really think it's important for guys to get on the board early to kick off the season with some confidence.

This china trip sucked as a fan of the team btw. I want to watch these games!

I wouldn't overanalyze this at all. I just got back from the game, and it felt more like I just watched a friendly between 2 beer league teams than a build up to the regular season thats worth the effort of analyzing.

Not a lot of flow, not a great atmosphere (it was ok, but Chinese really don't understand wtf is happening so not their fault) and on the tail end of a long ass road trip in a meaningless game.

Both teams get a huge pass from me on effort as well as score. Was cool to see in that environment and location, but let's get the season started, and put me in a seat at the dome with a heroin beer and a giant tub of nachos. Then we can talk.

Absolutely. Bennett was the most impactful Flames forward in these 2 games after Monahan.

I only saw the first before I had to get ready and go to work. I thought Sam was one of the better players in that frame. The play he made that sprung Jankowski on the SH breakaway was great. Really looking forward to that duo on the PK this year. Also I think he had three decent hits from what I saw. Brings an edge, which this teams needs.

Ya it seems they are still partially caught in Cameron's PP, not enough skating, to open up holes, or make more creative plays from the point. I think Hanifin would do great up top, same with Brodie. Whole PP has to find some real chemistry first I guess. Frustrating when the point isn't moving, and the passes are rushed, and end up broken plays.

And their counter argument is always “Bennett supporters pump his tires when undeserved”.

But you know what, being positive is just so much more fun than being negative. Especially with something as trivial as sport.

I watched late 1st- end

My thoughts

Hanifin is a much better player with the puck then I expected.
I did not hate Peluso, he is a better skater then I thought, 14th forward makes sense for him.
Janko and Bennett stood out, and PK for them both is huge.
I would love to see Dube play with those 2.
Prout didnt look awful either, I would keep him at 7th defender
Did not love Derek Ryan from what I saw and I hope he isnt the new whipping boy.

I'll admit that I was/am on board with trading Bennett. That being said, I wouldn't give him away. If the team could get a severe upgrade in net at the cost of Bennett, I would be ok with it. I wanted him to have a good year but I wasn't really expecting much, if he plays like this every game he'll have exceeded most people's expectations.

Bennett just has to keep this up. Hope he doesn't let up. If he just keeps playing his game, and starts having some fun too. Points will come. That sounds kinda cliche, but I think it's true. That's how he'll get his confidence back, and I still think he can be a very impact full player.
