Default Calgary Speed limits to be standard 30km/hr?

This is to come before council later this fall and could reduce residential speed limits from 50 km/hr to 30 km/hr.

I'd be interested to see a map of which roads this applies to. For instance, is something like 4th st NW, or Northmount Drive, or 20th ave? None of these would be very pleasant at 30.

Well aging population and all. I also heard that they're going to be declaring that left signal lights mean right, right means left and leaving your signal light on forever is considered decorative.

Inside neighbourhood speed, not applicable to collectors.

I'm fully for this. The survival rate for pedestrian - vehicular incidents is 90% at 30 km/h. It's a no brainer for me.

Should go back up to 50 if you install a cowcatcher on your car.

Yeah I imagine this would just be for residential streets. Seems a bit slow for boulevards and the like, though.

I didn't know this was a problem, I've never had a close call with/as a pedestrian. I generally pull my head out of my ass before I drive/cross the street though.

You just described French signalling. By the end of my trip to France I was convinced they just wired all their cars backwards. And it's not so bad when they are in the far left lane and leave it on, they can't go further left. It's when they are in the middle lane it gets trick to predict!

I think it's for the unmarked, residential roads. Basically where the speed limit is 50km/hr by default today it would be reduced to 30 km/hr.

I thought putting in roundabouts and speed bumps solved speeding in residential areas

I would welcome this in my neighbourhood. 50km/h is too damn fast as there are blind corners.

Improving neighbourhood street safety, comfort, and livability are top priorities for communities across Calgary ... Calgarians want safer streets, and reducing neighbourhood speed limits is an important part of the equation.
I think councillor Farrell will find that this does not, in fact, reflect the wishes of most Calgarians.

Can they increase the limits elsewhere to compensate on roads where the speed limit is annoyingly low? There's no reason that Bowness / Memorial need to be 50kph zones. Crowchild could be 100 south of the river. There are lots of places like that.
