A very professional performance. Denis is supposed to face a qualifier, hopefully if Felix qualifies they rig it so they play each other. The biggest first round match in Canadian tennis history lol.

Great to see all three Canadians advance in qualifying yesterday - Hopefully, they call all duplicate those results today.

Felix was hitting some bombs on his serve yesterday - consistently around the 130 MPH mark and topped out at 134.

Would be crazy to see 5 Canadian men in the main draw. Not to mention that just coming through qualis and playing in round one at this level of tournament is good for 26 points which is the same as winning a futures tourney or making the semis or quarters in a challenger depending on the level, would be a nice bump of quite a few rankings points for a guy like Felix AA who is still outside the top 150.

Vasek's coming in hot so I hope he can do something this time around... he can alternate between looking like a top 20 player in some instances and looking like a lost doubles guys making up the numbers some months.

Vasek should be motivated because he has some quality points to defend (qualified for last year's tourney and upset Andy Murray in making the third round last year).

It's crazy when you see him at his peak - when he's combining power with his athleticism and making shots he's a better player than Milos imo, but he is so wildly inconsistent and it happens so rarely. Every two years or so he goes on a crazy run for a month or two and then disappears and starts getting beat by plugs in crappy low level events. Still such a nice guy that you can't help but pull for him, doubly so as a Canadian and even more for me with him being from the valley here!

He's also had a tough go throughout his career when it comes to injuries and illness.

And yet, he powers through it so he can always represent Canada at the Davis Cup. Respect.

Tennis is a funny game - Martin Klizan (who beat Vasek in the semi-finals at the IW challenger event last Saturday and ended up winning the Challenger event) was as high as #24 in the world rankings back in 2015 and he is currently ranked #137. Also, Klizan lost yesterday in his IW qualifying match to Evan King of the States who is currently ranked #196.

now that Genie's legal battle with the USTA is over, it's not a question of if she'll win a major tournament, it's a question of how many. it's simple math...gimme a glass of wine or beer and I'll say she takes home a grand slam trophy in the next couple of seasons. maybe this year is a bit early, but definitely not more than two years.

Good start for Peter Polansky as he takes the opening set 6-3.

Edit: Not sure what happened in the second set (just watching the online score, but Polansky lost the second set 6-1)

Pospisil is broken in game 11 but comes from 40-15 down to break back. Off to tiebreak.

Now the question is, will her Super Bowl date be on hand to celebrate?

All right, Vasek joins Peter in the main draw winning his match 7-6(5) 6-2. Felix is down a set in his match, go Felix go!
