A person has come forward:

http://www.torontosun.com/2014/11/17...er-goes-public

Quote:
Bill Cosby has been at the center of an escalating sexual assault controversy for the past few weeks, and on Sunday, another woman came forward with details of an alleged sexual assault at the hands of the actor.
Publicist Joan Tarshis penned an essay on Hollywood Elsewhere on Sunday, saying she was raped twice by Cosby when she was 19 years old and working with him in the fall of 1969.

I heard about this years earlier and just thought it was well known and accepted as fact, but he always settled them and kept them quiet. For that reason I was surprised when a user recently registered with a play on his name... why would you want to be associated with Bill Cosby?

I want to make jokes, but its kid of tough.

On one hand, its a thread about a comedian, so humour seems appropriate, however its also about rape which is a much more difficult subject to bring levity to.

I disagree solely on the fact that Tom Hanks exists. He just seems like a genuinely awesome human being, from all I've seen and heard.

I agree, I hate hearing jokes about rape... because they always seem so forced.

My wife worked on his house a few years ago (she's an interior designer), and from all accounts, he's as nice of a guy off screen as he is on.

He would criticize guys like Chris Rock for using vulgarity and "n-word" references like he was some sort of decent family man and now it appears he may have been a fraud the whole time.

Tom Hanks is such a nice guy that when someone does something nice for you, it's customary to say "THanks".

Uh oh, is this a PR disaster waiting to happen? Is it happening right now? Do I need to call someone to handle public perception over my username?

Rape is no joke and I really can't grasp why someone would do such a stupid thing when consensual must be far more fun but accusing a person 45 years later seems to be a big reach for me.

1969, ask her what else she remembers from that year? if she doesn't remember "one small step" she's truly nuts.

There may be that defamation aspect but these women have mostly claimed there's a statute of limitations on their claim, so it doesn't benefit them financially and they can't press charges. Honestly it comes down to public opinion. When you have so many of these women coming out of the woodwork you have to think that there's fire there. Especially when there's little motivation when these women now are so much older. I actually thought well of Cosby until now.

This whole story bums me out. I grew up with Bill Cosby always on TV. I watched Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids as a youngster, bought his comedy LPs, and loved The Cosby Show.

Of course, he isn't being tried in a court of law, but these days the court of public opinion is harsher. I have no reason to believe all these women are lying.

I remember thinking years ago that you really can't have any role models in the public sphere because they'd let you down. This just brings that back a hundred fold.

It's pretty clear these allegations are true with the number of women and Cosby refusing to comment about it.

I always thought the Cosby show was kind of racist. Most of the white characters were the brunt of the jokes, or portrayed as less intelligent people.
