You need a wireless repeater. You put the transmitter inside (or above) your doorbell chime upstairs, then you plug the receiver (with chime) in an outlet downstairs. When your doorbell rings, the transmitter sends a signal to the receiver, which then also rings. I have a house just like yours (1600 sf bungalow) and we have one of these. It works flawlessly.

I picked up one of these a few years ago to replace my wired door chime / doorbell system. Works like a charm. A bit on the expensive side, but you can attach all sorts of other gizmos like window and door security switches and extra push buttons. The nice thing is the strobe, so if anybody in your house is hard of hearing they can see when somebody is ringing the door bell. Installation was a breeze too.

Problem solved - best doorbell I've ever owned.

(FYI Ring is a good product but only goes to -20, skybell goes to -40)
