My friends and I noticed this change last season, and it continues on this season. I’m not sure who’s in charge of the the production on a nightly basis, but they’re *not* doing a good enough job.
Has anyone else noticed this in recent games/years? The music they’re pumping into the dome is pushing the DBs into what seems to be unacceptably loud ranges. My Apple Watch is showing that they steadily sit at 90+ dB and exceed 100 dB consistently.
I mean…I know I’m getting old, but a random hockey game shouldn’t have you leaving the dome feeling like you were just at a Rammstein concert…right?
Anyone else have similar thoughts?

No comment about the actual noise as I haven't been to a game at the dome in 4 years now.
But I suspect that this is intentional to try and get further away from the "library" vibe that many have equally complained about over the years.
My take is, if that is the case, that's not the right solution. It's the wrong type of loud. Crowd noise is more important. More crowd interaction, more giveaways (like thundersticks, towels, whatever). That's the ticket.

The volume of the music and announcers in between plays is ridiculously loud. Tough to even have a conversation between plays when the music is playing without having to yell to the person next to you.
We’re all getting older but don’t think it used to be this loud.

I actually agree. However it depends on where you sit i think.
I was at a pre-season game sitting about half way up the 2nd bowl at centre ice and it was honestly deafening. We could not talk at all during commercial breaks without shouting like we were at a nightclub or concert. It actually hurt my ears it was so loud.
Not just when they played music right before a faceoff either. Even the promos/fan engagement parts and during the intermission it was consistently deafeningly loud.
I literally went to a Rammstein concert less than two months ago and I'm not joking when I say it wasn't as loud.
And can we get rid of the orange lights that shine on the ice? They look like they're for the Oilers.

I think it is a trend in pro sports game ops. They must think it enhances experience.
I went to a lot of Blue Jays games in April this year after they had made some changes to the stadium. It was absurdly bright and way too loud (I'm in my early 30s, not quite Abe Simpson yet). In certain spots in the SkyDome it was impossible to talk to people I was at the game with when any music was playing. I noticed over the year it got less bright and they adjusted the volume a bit. Probably worth the email for anyone considering it.
I've only been to one game in the last couple of years, but I remember thinking this very thing. I thought it may have been where I was sitting, but it was noticeable annoying...like a teenager trying to compensate for their crappy car by making it louder.
It's the wrong type of loud.

Didn’t notice anything last night, but I sit up in the Press Level so it might not be as apparent.
No scarves last night for the home opener, and no lineup cards handed out either. Kind of disappointing. They did hand out a bunch of swag (jerseys) and gift cards though. Lucky ****ers.

I will never complain if the crowd is really loud. I've been to deafening Seahwawks games and other very loud stadiums where it is the people making the noise. Good for them. Blasting music or pumping in extra noise, no thanks!

My wife and I said the same thing last season, and again tonight. We've been going to games together since 2007... It's definitely getting louder.
We initially thought "Maybe we're just getting old now", but if that was the case wouldn't it seem "less loud" since our hearing would be going due to old age?

We need vuvuzelas giveaways!

Haven't been to the Dome in a few years but I did notice that the two NLDS games I watched, the Dodgers' sound system is cranked right up to 11+. The walk up music sounds like the channel is being fed right into the broadcast. The announcers even commented on how much they could feel the base in their chests. I bet you could hear the horns in Freddie Freeman's walk up music in Long Beach.
I have the same complaint. The music and speaking volume in between whistles makes it difficult to have a conversation with the person you went to the game with. It also makes it difficult for the crowd to organically start chants.
Super irritating actually.
