Like they showed with Tkachuk and few seasons ago, they won't hold anyone back. But during Tkachuk's 9 game audition before committing that 10th game to him, he had to show that he could be more than just a scorer.
Making the team for the year may be a question, but based on how he was close last year, and only looks better this year, it would be insane if he didn't get at least the 9 game taste.

No 9-game audition for Dube. He's AHL-eligible this year, and his contract is no longer eligible to slide.

Why nine games? The Flames don't have to make a decision on him for junior do they? It's the big club or the minors?

The more I play with lines the more giddy I get about the options available. Paired with Peters' history of line juggling, should see lots of combos this year to find what works.

I think he gets the Jankowski treatment if he continues to show well as the rosters deepen. First call up

You can literally spin the wheel and set them up any way you want. And it works.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Czarnik
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Neal
Dube - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Ryan

I'll admit, I'm a big fan of Czarnik after watching him.

9 game taste doesn't really matter. Dube burns a year of his ELC whether he plays NHL games or not.

The 10 NHL game entry level slide only applies to 18 and 19 year olds.

Yeah right. I forgot about that.

In that case, I really wouldn't be surprised to see him start a few games in the NHL at least.

If Dube makes the team, it'd better be as a center as his speed down the middle is dynamite. I think he's a better center than Jankowski - I actually thought this in last year's preseason too.

I think it realistic to expect 80 goals from your centers, in this configuration.

Not bad.

I don't agree with that - Jankowski's 200 ft game is more complete.

And while Dube looks good as a C, I think it's a safe bet that his NHL career starts on the wing.

3rd and 4th lines equal time.
That is one sweet looking roster, miles better than last year, at least on paper. My only quibble is that this puts three natural centres (two of whom shoot right) on the third line and three left-handed shots on the second and fourth lines. I would definitely split up Ryan and Czarnik, putting one of them on RW on the second line and giving that line someone who can take strong-side draws on the right side of the ice.

If that were our lineup...we could return the exact same dudes in 2019. Two RFAs everyone else under contract.

If you're expecting the Jankowski treatment then you should expect to see him in the AHL most of the year. Which I think is more likely than not.

I thought the same, but it felt weird to put Neal out of the top 6.

As many have said though, the lines may be in a blender a bit... plus injuries and whatnot. Just nice to have some flexibility.

I think Dube forces them to keep him and find a spot that works for him in the lineup.

Poooooor Eat Bread. Guy is going to be shoved out by Dube (assuming no injuries or a trade, either of which could happen, of course).

Great problem to have though.

I've been saying he will make the team this year ever since he got sent back to junior last year.

He was more-or-less ready last season so he is most defiantly ready this one.

I like all 12 of our top forwards:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Neal
Frolik-Ryan-Czarnik
Bennett-Jankowski-Dube
