Nah, I was just in Hawaii last week and rented a Kia Soul off Turo. I ####in loved it...was even going to make a post about it but I just haven't got around to it. That is one outstanding vehicle. I'm 6'4", my daughter is 5'9", wife is 5'3" and son is 5'7". So two talls, one short and one average. We fit super comfortably and it held all our luggage with ease. Incredible fuel economy compared to what I'm used to, great seating position, really nice tech and very comfortable for long drives around the island. It is so nice to see such a great car that is affordable and is a totally competent and efficient family car. It wasn't a penalty box at all.
And bear in mind, my daily driver is a very fast tuned CLS550, so it's not like I went from a Ford Tempo to the Soul. Still loved it. Such a great size for toodling around the cities and towns, too. Small car, but doesn't feel small (in a good way), but then feels super small when you want it to be (like parking).

That’s a bit of an apples to oranges comparison though when you consider that a lot of people in the energy sector spent the last decade or so taking wage cuts and/or layoffs.
Crazy that a couple of years ago Galen was telling his shareholders to vote against guaranteeing a minimum wage of $15/hour to all Employees because it would be bad for them but suddenly giving the majority shareholder of the same multibillion dollar company whose stock is already up around 20% in the last year more money isn’t bad for shareholders.

I think this is actually his very roundabout way of getting around the paywall. “one of these guys here must have a subscription”.

Right. So while I agree probably many professionals got bonuses >10% of comp last year, I doubt there were to many who got bonuses of over $1 MM.

My wife's Kia Soul happily transported me, my wife, and our Bernese (RIP) and could still fit two adults in the back when needed (or three in a pinch).
Great vehicle, I was impressed with it.

Another #### cancer, it RGMG post. My lovely neighbor lady died Tuesday night. We really lucked out having her as a neighbor and I'm going to miss her a lot. She was a sassy, feisty older lady who could put a person in their place with a look and a word, and that was pretty funny to watch sometimes. But, she was also incredibly kind. I'm going to miss our coffees sitting on the front stoop, visiting.

Sorry to hear.
Having great neighbours is so rare, but it's so invaluable to have. You were definitely lucky to have her.

We really were. Her kids plan on selling her place eventually, they're not rushing things. I just hope the next neighbors are even half as decent as she was. They have big shoes to fill.

Took 15 hours in airports and planes yesterday to get home from Palm Springs. Who has to sit on the tarmac for over an hour waiting for “paperwork?” Then we sit awaiting a taxi over for deicing in Calgary. Then 45 minutes in Calgary for two hours awaiting a connecting flight. The only thing Westjet did well was meeting us for our new boarding passes for the new flight to replace the one we missed. Got home at 3 am, grrrr.

They di-iced us in Boise yesterday and there was no obvious ice or morning frost
I'm not a de-icing expert, but it seemed odd. I'll defer to those running the airport, but just seemed odd.

I guess it is because you managed to navigate to the forum, clicked to open the thread, clicked to reply, copied the link ,and then voice-to-texted a bunch of non-pertinent details about the story, instead of “I can’t believe Galen Weston is getting a huge raise”.

I had almost the opposite yesterday , sat on the tarmac for well over an hour after landing in Palm Springs then another hour waiting for luggage.

for those not impressed with galen weston lablaws bonus i present to you the little bonus air canada just gave out....
Quote:
Air Canada paid chief executive officer Michael Rousseau $12.38-million in 2022, the first full year after the federal government lifted restrictions on the airline’s compensation practices as a condition of its pandemic-related bailout.
The pay package represented a 233-per-cent raise over Mr. Rousseau’s 2021 pay levels.
...
Air Canada said it paid out the maximum possible bonus for financial performance because it lost less money than forecast.
|

It’s not up to the airport, it’s up to the captain/aircrew/airline policy.
