Not to say Toronto is better than any other place, but in the GTA they're building a few studios. In fact I think North America's largest indoor studio is set to begin building soon in Markham. https://firststudiocity.com/about/
I found the Cecil Docuseries fine. Just like don't eff with cats it adds in the interwebs sleuthing as a part of the entire story. Which is true. Rabid dogs off a leash.
And aside from their refusal to believe the autopsy reports and carry on throwing dirt on an innocent person, this group was also creepy AF. Their involvement in trying to help became a part of her sad story. And kind of overshadowed it a fair bit.
But yes, they could have definitely tossed out the sleuthing and kept to the story and only made it one or two episodes and it would have been a good watch.
But to me, it's a look into modern society and how these leeches latch onto tragedy and take it for themselves.
Man, that one balding dude really creeper me out, I'm like 100 percent certain he was stalking her before. And having someone go to her resting place and touch her headstone for him....shudder.
The doc was clearly created on a budget. The web sleuths is a lot of filler to allow it to get to 4 episodes. But the only major interviews they have are with the manager, a couple of police officers, the coroner and a couple of random hotel guests.
That's it.
So it's filled up with a bunch of other stuff including TONS of b-roll footage.
They basically grabbed on to a compelling and weird story and built something around it - without actually adding much.
That all being said I did enjoy it. But for what it is.
I liked it too but these docs by netflix have way too much filler. This could have been two-parter and I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Sitting through hours of internet sleuths and YouTubers is boring and really adds no value to the premise. I felt the same way about the don't eff with cats one.
Want to make it longer? Have multiple episodes about the hotel and go into more depth on the other stories they touched on. Have an intro episode that goes into the hotels past, one about that serial killer, another about the homeless population in the area and ties to the hotel and tie it all into the last episode about Lam. But cramming it full of internet opinions just takes away from what is already an interesting story.

Spoiler!
I enjoyed it, but I agree with you on the length. I was aware of the story, but obviously not a lot of the little details after. The whole story ended up being exactly what I thought it was from the start, but it was decent.
I actually found the web sleuth stuff interesting. Watching many of them just lose it and fall into conspiracies because of coincidences, or reaching too much struck a chord with me. I've seen this happen to several friends and family members over the past year on various topics, and it was odd to see how it all happens. I'm actually recommending it to some of those people for that very reason, to see if will recognize that behaviour..
As for those web sleuths, man that one guy with the touching of the gravestone just weirded me out...
It's the total idiotic characters that I can't stand. Jean-Ralphio and his sister, Jamm, Joan (talk show host) etc. I immediately go to my phone when they are on screen.
I'm re-watching it, and I'm bored waiting for Jean-Ralphio to show up.
You probably dislike Gina Linetti too! Why do you hate laughter?!?

The Cecil documentary could have been 5 minutes long
NSFW!
She could not have drowned accidently...the lid was shut!
Oh wait it was open.
The end.
Like I said about this one, there was a chance to make a good doc about mental health, economic crisis, homelessness. It was right there. Instead, YouTubers.

There is an unbelievable amount of padding in this series so far (I’m only on episode 2). I would have preferred it to be a more straightforward narrative instead of focusing on all these unnecessary side interviews. What did the couple from Scotland really add to it? I’m pretty sure this story could be told in 2 episodes.
At least they were actually there are drank dead body water...90% of the people they showed had nothing to do with it other than watching the video on youtube.
I really can't believe how bad it was...they spend 30 mins over two episodes talking about that death metal guy only to reveal he was there a ####ing year before it happened and not even in the country at the time lol

This was kind of my issue with how it was done. I think you can easily cut a couple hours out of this. 1 episode about her, the footage, etc, and 1/2 - 1 episode on the hotel, internet sleuths, musician etc.
Like it would have been less aggravating with the musician if they just pointed out why he wasn't involved, then interviewed him about how it affected his life and mental health.
I still did find the youtuber aspect interesting just as a commentary on what we've seen in the past year with conspiracies and armchair experts so maybe that's why I didn't hate that part, but it was way too long, and I did get annoyed with them. Could have easily been a 2 hour doc.
The lid thing, I kept sitting there saying, it was open when he got there. Why are they saying it's closed. I started to think I was wrong because it took so long to address.
I don't know if its for everyone, but I stumbled onto "You can't kill David Arquette". We all remember him from the 90's and the Scream movie franchises, and his run as WCW Wrestling where he took the blame for basically helping to kill and disrespect the business. Arquette basically vanished, and as he stated he spent 10 years doing auditions without getting a job.
This documentary follows him as he tries to get back into the wrestling business.
This is where the normal departs as this is one of the most bizarre and actually disturbing things that I've ever seen.
On the wrestling side he makes appearances in back yard wrestling federations, goes down to Mexico to train and take part in street wrestling, and goes through the independent scene, and takes a beating doing it.
So what's disturbing about it, this is a story where you feel that the main character is spiraling out of control, and you just feel like this is a person with maybe some serious mental issues. From the bizarre and disorganized and frantic film style, to his very strange self monologue to just some of the stuff that he does in the movie, you just wonder if the brain injuries that he has to his drinking and past drug abuse, to his being utterly rejected and vilified has broken him.
You get instant sympathy for his wife and family who are following this journey and look like they're extremely uncomfortable with the whole thing.
Just a strange and utterly bizarre movie, where you watch some parts with your fingers over your eyes and peaking through.
In the end the one question that you have to ask. Is David Arquette seriously suffering from some kind of delusional disorder, or, is he the ultimate carney trying to relaunch his career?

Add on because I felt I missed the point, as things go on in this movie, one thing is clear, he seriously worked his butt off to not embarrass the sport with this and when you read some reviews of him, he did gain some respect back from the business because he respected it by not treating this as a publicity stunt.

If you liked Dark, the same team has a new series out today. Looks to be a combination German and English.
