Default Wild sign Winnik to PTO

http://www.twincities.com/2017/09/12...camp-on-a-pto/

Quote:
Veteran forward Daniel Winnik will attend Minnesota Wild training camp on a professional tryout (PTO), the team announced on Tuesday morning. He joins Ryan Malone as the second veteran player the Wild have invited to training camp.

Winnik, 32, played 72 games with the Washington Capitals last season and finished with a career-high 12 goals and 13 assists. He has also spent time with the Arizona Coyotes, the Colorado Avalanche, the San Jose Sharks, the Anaheim Ducks, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Because he’s in training camp on a PTO, the Wild can cut Winnik at anytime with no penalty. That said, it seems Winnik will be given a good opportunity to make the team.

“He’s a heckuva player,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “He was good for Washington last season. He’s one of the better penalty killers in the league. We don’t know where it’s going to end up. He’s a good guy to have in training camp, though.”
Well...he's got a better chance to make it than most of the other team's NHL PTO invites. Also, can't believe Ryan Malone is still trying one last kick at the can.

Ryan Malone had been out of hockey for 2 full years. I thought he was done for good.

Wonder if this will give somebody's former favourite player hope at attempting a comeback??

We should have a thread for all PTO's. There are so many.

And the Malone thing is surprising. RJ Umberger also is getting a tryout with Dallas and he hasn't played for a while. I think the Wild did this with Fedotenko a few years ago

Cammalleri signed a one-year deal with the Kings on July 1.

Yeah, RJ Umberger's last hockey season was 2015-16.

I think both Umberger & Malone are done like dinner. I'd be shocked if either of them (especially Malone) have anything left to give.

No, silly. That wasn't your favourite player.

I think Russo mentioned that A) Malone's kid is in school in Minny, and 2) He's looking for an AHL deal with a possible eye on the Olympics. Whatever.
