2017 Hurricane Season
Based on what I'm reading/watching, Hurricane Harvey is probably worthy of its own thread.

I don't know when, but it's been a long time.
Just checked and it was 1978 in the Pacific and 1979 in the Atlantic!

Hmm interesting. I remember being told growing up that they were always named after women (no clue why). But then the last few I remember have been male names. Thanks for the link.

The forecast of it just stalling there for days is going to be really devastating. They are talking over 30 inches in rain in some places. That's not going to be good.

Just spoke to some of my family there. The storm is far south of them. Just worried about rain and any tornadoes that may pop up. But they don't sound all that concerned.

I spent hurricane season 2005 in Houston, and even if the worst of the storm doesn't make it there it is pretty breathtaking how much rain they get even from the edge of it. Still have lots of friends there, hope nothing serious goes down there and in the refineries.

I believe the old naming convention was to give hurricanes in the northern hemisphere women's names and ones in the Southern Hemisphere men's names. But there were hardly ever hurricanes in the south so you just a lot of publicized hurricanes with women's names and people got offended n

Classy. Remember what you must have thought about people from bc and eastern Canada who had comments about the fires in ft mac? You are one of them.

I mean, it was all of America who contributed to voting in Trump, not just Texas.
But anyways, they just announced this thing is now a Category 4. Hold on to your butts.

This is chilling - authorities asking people to write their names and social security numbers on theirs arms, so they can be indentifed later.
