It's been that type of crowd for years ... only the wardrobe has changed.

Speaking of oddball places, how about Jimmy's in the NE. I was shocked to see it's still open. I've never felt more worried of getting stabbed or catching syphilis from touching any surface than I did the one time I got pulled there.

that was the one on 4th in the basement correct? You know, the one with the water on the floors in the bathrooms and just a huge deathtrap if a fire were to start?

You've never heard of the Ship & Anchor? Its not a club, but definitely a Calgary staple and a great place to spend a warm summer Saturday afternoon if you've got the cash to stay there all day.
Many a good time had there. I even played for their soccer team for a while.

That place was 'crazy' awesome. It was awesome in the 'I might die here tonight' kind of way.

Commonwealth is good, but it's not for 19 year olds... I am 2 for 2 there so far (and currently still with one of them!)
Bank I was forced to go to too many times, won't go again. Pretty ######y.
Roadhouse is your best bet. People over the age of 23 there should be considered sleazebags.
Snatch - er, Desperadoes, not sure. Haven't been there since it was Outlaws.
Sociale - see what Oz_Flame said.
Ubu - not sure, the gf thought it was full of hipsters.
Vinyl - too sweaty in there. Young crowd though, not a bad choice for you.
Amsterdan Rhino - there ya go. Decent place.
HiFi - liked it, but young crowd. Another good one for ya.
Radio Park - what the hell is that.
Craft - don't go there. The less competition I have there the better.
Bamboo / Drum - fun.
Swingers Club / Chicken on the Way - this ain't your typical dance party
Ranchmans - you want women, go here. It's like taking candy from a baby. I'm also 28 though... you might have a more difficult time (women like older dudes).
Someone suggested Twisted... you should go there. It might more than meet your expectations.

So you totally went there before it was cool? Yeah, I hate that, it's too mainstream now. Locke played on their soccer team.

I really miss Cowboys and their 25 cent draft night. I'm sure most poeple here have had a sweaty makeout on the disgusting couches upstairs. And beer factor too... Damn those were good times!
The only "club" for me now is the Bamboo Tiki Lounge, but mostly because it is attached to the Drum. Girls want to dance? They piss off to Bamboo to do so. Guys want to drink? They can just sit their ass down and do so.

I worked with a guy that was one of the bartenders there on his nights off, had a lot of fun and also saw my life flash before my eyes more times than is generally considered comfortable.

While not getting engaged in a hipster street battle (which would totally suck in every conceivable way, imagine a full on 'Jazz hands/Alex Semin' style battle royale) to go there 'before it was cool' you'd have to be pretty old. How long has that place been around?
Anyways, it was a convenient location when I was in High School and is still a nice place to grab a drink and watch a soccer game.

It was really awesome when they had the $5 pitchers along with the 25 cent draft. Many a blackouts were had there.
