Pretty underwhelming first half I thought. Although Cavs were on the front foot for the latter 30 mins or so. Ball is bouncing off the turf like a trampoline at times.

Jose Hernandez…so we’re done scoring tonight.
(Hopefully I’m wrong!)

So in the late stages of the game and Cavalry needing some creativity in attack, we put out Novak, Di Chiara, Luca and Hernandez. Brilliant.
Home we find our form at home because if not, this is looking like a 3rd place finish and a loss in the semifinals.

Yeah that was a pretty uninspiring lineup to close it out. In fairness they generated a couple good chances (surprisingly!) and could’ve scored a goal to win it. They just look disorganized and disjointed. There were a few balls that were supposed to be passed to players down the wings that were just miles ahead and killed any potential. But it was sloppy. Maybe some of that is the turf, but it just seems out of sync in general to me.

Positive thoughts. Cavalry have played 17 of their 21 games away from Spruce Meadows and are still in second place. 6 of their last 7 games are at home.
Enough time to re-establish form and go into the playoffs on a hot streak.
Let's goooooo...

Finally we get a Saturday afternoon game this week. We've got 2 busses from the Rose and Crown for the game. Our relationship with the pub has soured a bit this year but they're still helping out the game day experience.
Hopefully we can pack the busses and get a big crowd with the decent (for October) weather.

6 minutes in and the Cavs are all over this weak Edmonton side. Could be a 3 or 4 nothing game.

Luca is having a pretty good game so far. They need to keep up this relentless attack and more chances will eventually go in.

This is easily Lucas best half of football. Had a wicked cross in and scores a goal and looked dangerous throughout.

I'm not loving the Apostol for Luca sub. Looks like Apostol is taking over RB so Farsi can be more RW, but Luca was playing so well there!
edit: maybe I'm wrong about Farsi pushing up, he looked to be in the backline again just now. Even so, why take off the most dynamic player from the attack?

Disappointing to see that on a last gasp free kick 25m out we let Di Chiara take it and end the match with a hapless shot into the wall.

Wasting points again. We should have dunked on that starting XI.
This team struggles badly against the low block. We have to figure out a way to break that down.

Cavalry are hurting for a player who can strike the ball.

Just no game breaker or someone that can make something of chances. Such a frustrating game to watch.
I know a lot of the footsoliders don't like Malonga, but if he (or someone like him) was on the team, they'd be first place by a wide margin. Joe Mason is seriously missed, but he's a poacher, not a true #10.

Quite the managerial masterstroke to take off every player with attacking talent to settle for a 1-1 draw with Edmonton at home. Absolute cowardice.
Can't believe it was 1-1 after the 1st half. Complete domination.

My face is a bum!

Finally watched the game today. Just completely flaccid up the middle, and it makes our attack so easy to deal with. I don't think it's Malonga that is missing, it's Buscher and Minatel.

Game was a bit of a blur as I singlehandedly funded the club's 2022 season with my beer consumption, but that was a very disappointing result. Complete domination of the B side of one of the worst clubs in the league, and yet we only have 1 point to show for it. I think even some of the Foot Soldiers are starting to miss Malonga, at least he could poach a goal. I also agree that we have not had an adequate replacement for Buscher since he left.
On the bright side, how much better is the pitch this year compared to 2019? Helps when it doesn't dump 20 cm in early October and dip to -15, but they also put a lot of money into it too. Spoilered for size.
