Default Rowdy Roddy Piper Dead at 61

Kind of a bummer. Anyone that watched WWF in the 80's will remember Piper for being a colourful wrestler but to me his highlight was the movie They Live; "I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all outta bubblegum." RIP Hot Rod.

It sucks all of the wrestlers I grew up watching are passing away. He always held a special place with me being a fellow Manitoban and living a year in my hometown when he was young.

He's the only one I would stop to watch, when my husband would have WWF on. Loved him. I'm glad I got to watch this last Wrestlemania, when he and a few of the other 'golden oldies' made an appearance.

Duke Nukem stole it. Piper's movie was 1988.

Was my first WWF action figure (you know the large, rubbery ones that you could bounce and do cool moves with). Lost the kilt. Sucks that he passed away so soon. Will never forget those early generation guys like Andre the Giant and Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Just shows the toll on the body this "sport" had/has?, Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, Mr. Perfect, Moody, Piper and probably a lot more dead from heart or other organ failure at around 60 or younger.

Vince McMahon handed out steroids like candy to these guys and made 100's of millions while doing it, too bad Hulk Hogan didn't tell the truth at McMahon's drug trial...hope he's happy with Vince's handouts.

What's interesting about that is that I would assume Vince used/uses steroids too. He hasn't taken near the physical toll that his roster has but it still can't be good for his 70(?) year old heart.

I just spent a half hour watching some old Hot Rod footage. Great memories. He wasn't the typical villain in that he was crazy, quick-witted, and comical. He would entertain you and make you laugh but then turn viciously physical and remind you he was dangerous. Pretty dynamic character compared to, say, the Iron Sheik or King Kong Bundy.

Really sad, Piper was on a public downward spiral in the last several weeks.

I think prescription painkillers has a lot more to do with it than steroids. These guys beat up their bodies so badly especially back in Piper's hey day as they would wrestle every night in a different town, and most would abuse an abundance of painkillers to be able to handle it.
