They produce like 4th liners but are too expensive to keep when you already have Lucic and Ryan making over $8 million against the cap in your bottom 6.
I would rather they give Bennett a legit look on the 3rd line with Dube.

They seemingly have some chemistry.

Yes actually I think many of us are lol.

No chance.
And no chance he's tradable at $1.7M. Why do people always think our bad players at bad contracts are good trade bait?
He would actually be negative value in a trade.

Absolutely. If the Flames made a $2.55M per annum offer to a 25-year-old UFA utility winger who peaked as a rookie, was on a 19-point pace last year, and was notorious for taking stupid penalties I would be livid with Treliving for wasting that kind of money.

As i said in the first page no chance they qualify him. With the cap staying the same next year, IMO there is going to be a lot of good bargains on the UFA market for lower tier players. Nobody is paying or trading for a $1.75 million Jankowski. Pretty sure his next contract will be in the 6 digits.

Yeah the Flames have 16 million give or take to get 9 more players on the roster next year. It's likely they need to allocate 4.5 for a D slot and another 2.75 in goal, plus Valimaki, so that is half the cap space and 6 more spots to fill.

Mangiapane also will need a pretty good bump so that will likely eat up 2.25. That whittles you down to 5.5 ish for 5 guys. So that's pretty much million dollars max for any of those slots unless you can move money elsewhere.

The spots to fill are bottom of the roster/depth type roles but I can see teams being leery about giving term and dollars to what essentially becomes rank and file type players. Especially since the cap is not going to rise in coming seasons, things like buyouts and Lucic like contracts will really hold teams back.

Mikael Granlund's next contract might be in the 2.5 range or so given his drop off in performance. Bennett and Janko are way overpaid for what they bring.

I don't even mind Jankowski - his main issues with losing focus/concentration can be slowly worked on - but there is no way you can afford to pay your fourth-line centre that kind of cash absent extraordinary special teams contribution or intangibles. In a cap league, efficiency is paramount and with the cap news efficiency is even more pronounced going forward. Unfortunately, Trelving has been somewhat undisciplined with contract efficiency in a keeping up with the Joneses effort leaving little room for flexibility for a couple years here.

Agree with everyone saying he won't be qualified, but will likely be re-signed at a lower salary.

For what it's worth, the fairly accurate model created by the twins at Evolving Hockey has Jankowski pegged at 1.9% of the cap ($1,577,000), most likely on a one-year deal. Personally, I think that's at least $400,000 too high, but we'll see.

There are going to be a lot of veterans looking for any sort of contract coming up. I believe this season we are entering a bargain bin.
