Honestly, I don't think it was a red. He meant to square him off, and obstruct him.. we can see that --- which is a yellow. I don't see any intent to injure.

Yeah to me that’s never a red. I don’t think you can go by the injury, because that’s not always a good guideline.

Madrid: "Hey, are you finished with that?"

Fascinating stuff out of Milan. Mino doubled down in favour of the club increasing their last offer, and Milan called his bluff.

yeah, great stuff. Especially since the previous Milan regime bent over backwards for Raiola, so it's got to feel good for them. Needs to happen more often too, clubs can't allow agents to keep them hostage.

Raiola steered him to dirty money in Paris.

Barcelona have signed Memphis Depay.

Quote:
Depay's arrival at Barcelona further increases their options in attack. Pending sales and contract renewals, he will compete with Aguero, Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, Martin Braithwaite, Philippe Coutinho and Francisco Trincao for a starting position.
https://global.espn.com/football/soc...epay-from-lyon

Its a free transfer which is okay, no mention of wages, but its nice that he'll slot in somewhere ahead of Martin Braithwaite and maybe Francisco Trincao.

If only Barca had a player like Luis Suarez. As a La Liga winner this season, he might be helpful.

Joan Laporta has said Barcelona are in an even worse position than he imagined when he was elected as president in March.

Barca's gross debt is close to €1.2 billion, with the club urgently needing to reduce the wage bill, with a €100m bank loan needed in May to help pay salaries to the playing squad.

"There are contracts which condition how much we can do. There are things that must be explained [by the previous board] and I don't rule out taking some sort of action. We will explain everything because if not, we will be complicit.

"We've encountered a squad with old-fashioned contracts and we will have to work out what to do. The existing contracts can be changed or restructured. After that, there are more drastic measures that we hope we don't have to adopt.

"But nothing's ruled out if it's for the good of the club. Between salaries and amortisations, it's about €650m [annually], which is more than the club's revenue. These salaries are out-of-step with the current market."
https://global.espn.com/football/bar...d-joan-laporta

Why did Gini Wijnaldum go to Paris? Because he hopes to actually be paid by a financially solvent club.

Away goals rule abolished: UEFA announces major shake-up of club competitions

"The rule, which had been in place since 1965, was used to determine a winner when teams were level on aggregate after a two-legged match. The team that had scored more goals as the away side were awarded the victory. But from now, this will be replaced by extra-time and penalties."

they should have done it last year and only last year, when the stadia were empty. it is much harder to score on away ground when it is packed and thus should count for more. I liked the rule.

They should have kept the away goal rule.

Tottenham Hotspur progressed to the 2019 final after beating Manchester City and Ajax on away goals before they lost the final to Liverpool.
Clearly this was the last straw and could no longer be tolerated.

If a team like Spurs could progress on Away Goals...twice no less! Then as a rule it must be flawed! Has to be.

You would think that.

Haha, it's not because of those two sins though. It's far more exciting. To have games that can swing on a goal not only from a losing position to a draw, but to a win is massive. This change probably means more dull extra time and penalties than we have now, and truthfully no one wants to see that.

I would move away goals to count at the end of extra time. Then you have an extra 30 minutes of wildness.

It's not far more exciting though, no matter which path you choose it changes how each game works. No away goals means first legs will now be more wide open because playing for a clean sheet doesn't matter anymore. Might make the second leg less exciting though. But it's simply more fair, which is all that should matter. Away goals made sense when travelling away was a lot more onerous than simply jumping on a charter the day before and flying back a couple hours after the match ends.'

Like under the current model you are significantly better off as the home team with a 0-0 in the first leg then a 3-3, even though they are on a result basis the exact same thing. The one thing it does open up is more penalties, but there is no perfect system so you gotta deal with an imperfect system no matter.
