I've heard Cavalry have booked the Rose and Crown for a watch party for the June 27 game vs York. Should be a good time.

Little update video from the club.

Tommy did an interview on the Fan 960 today and mentioned they fly out to Winnipeg on Monday, and will have a few new signings to announce before then. I would guess Victor Loturi and Ethan Keen will be signed to USports contracts. He teased an "ace up his sleeve" as well.

Maybe it's the Euro and CMNT high I'm on right now, but holy man am I excited for this season. Cavs are looking very strong going into the first match.

Nice! They're practicing at the "Field of Dreams". It's some Oil and Gas guy that just has a private beautiful turf pitch out in the Foothills, and a fully filtered/serviced pond/lake next to it for a post-game dip.

Little bit of a hike to get there, but man is it beautiful.

Not related to Cavalry FC, but this is the best place to ask.

I'm doing a bit of daydreaming and mapping out what my (non-existent) football career would've looked like if I played for the local side everywhere I lived from age 16 on. What was the closest geographical club for Calgary between 2005-2014?

Calgary Storm/Mustangs dissolved in 2004. I know Foothills were around as a club, but I think as a youth club only, and anyway I want to use professional clubs. So what I have from 2005-2014 is Vancouver Whitecaps (05-07), Edmonton Drillers (07-10, and indoor so iffy on this one), and FC Edmonton (10-14) Were they actually the closest clubs to Calgary in that time? Nothing just south of the border?

FC Calgary, played semi-pro indoor. I think coached by Randall.
Greg, top me up?

It was actually "Calgary United" that was the indoor pro team. Randall coached it to start, and then it was Munib (technical director with Villains now) that coached when I played. 17 year old Dean Northover was actually my roommate on our first away trip, so that would have been I believe around 12 years ago?

Some other familiar names on that squad were the (late) Kris Kooy (RIP), the former FC Edmonton Captain, Nick Zuniga (former Mustangs player), and a couple others.

Not CPL news, but Calgary Foothills and Edmonton Scottish / Angels will be playing a doubleheader next weekend in Edmonton. Scottish announced their intentions of going semi-pro last week, with the overarching goal of creating an interprovincial semi-pro league in 2022. Looks like there will be a series of friendlies this summer.

Further to my last post, I am hearing this series of friendlies will likely include an opportunity for fans to attend. If anyone is interested, I can post details once I know more...

Victor Loturi and Daniel Kaiser have signed U-Sports contracts with Cavalry. Kaiser is a FB so that adds a little depth at that position.

Last signing of the year; former Foothills and Valour forward Ali Musse. Decent depth option at this level but not much more than that.

Also, the club got new floodlights. The guy in this video is one of the Foot Soldiers OG's so I'm quite enjoying his acting debut.

Bring on the damn season!

I'm guessing the ace in the sleeve never panned out, or Tommy has a lot of faith in this guy.

I'm terrible at posting things, but the club released that they have added 5 floodlights for the season. It looks great! Also mentioned that the owners have put 8 million into the stadium which is amazing. Good for them and great Calgarians. Will try to support them in some of their other ventures.

Was the ace up his sleeve the new lights and sod? Hilarious if true

With the installation of the floodlights, if it wasn't before, Spruce Meadows must be the showpiece stadium of the CPL now. Looks great both in person and on TV. Is the proper size for the league so looks fairly full (knock on wood). And supporters group is highly visible.

The floodlights are nice development. The lone floodlight vs. Montreal is part of club folklore now, but at the time it was a big blunder for such an important event, especially with ATCO in the family portfolio. But the club and the owners have come through with a great setup.

This will obviously help with weeknight cup matches, but it also gives some flexibility with weeknight league matches as needed. Not to mention grey, overcast afternoons in the fall - floodlights can still be beneficial in the daytime on crap days.

Random question: does anyone know what is inside the long building that makes up the back of the south stand? The stands are sort of tacked onto the pitch side of it, but there is an actual building that runs the length. There is also a garage door on the south side, as shown here in this pre-Cavalry 3D Google Maps view: https://goo.gl/maps/NE82342AySU5wSKk6

The obvious and boring answer is "horsey things", landscaping vehicles, etc. but I was just curious. Or maybe it is Shermanator's private reception lounge to which I have not yet been invited.
