I used to like Rogan for some of his casual banter years ago when he started his podcast. Now far too many people listen to everything he says as gospel and science.

Wait.
Who are these people who actually take the words that come out of Joe Rogans (or Peterson’s for that matter) mouth as gospel? Like, I have literally never met anyone who says speaks that way about Rogan.
I have heard people take some of their positions as correct, or some of the stuff they heard guests say as fact. And that’s probably a byproduct of the amount of absolutely intelligent and highly trained guests Rogan has hosted. Like, when Rhonda Patrick is adamantly supporting and promoting the Covid vaccine, are the people listening to that wrong because she’s saying it to Rogan?
More recently, when John Abramson repeatedly contradicts Rogan and points out confounding variables, are there really a bunch of Roganites out there ending that podcast more entrenched in the ideas that the show was actually correcting?

I don’t care how good self driving technology becomes - you still need people to be behind the wheel if something goes wrong.

A driver becomes pointless when self driving tech is reasonably reliable, I get the theory that the driver will be sitting their eyes on the road, hands hovering an inch off the wheel in a state of constant cat like readyness to pounce if their is a problem, but in reality the driver will be having a nap or engrossed in their twitter account and will never see the problem until it is way to late, people are already doing this and the self drive tech right now is rubbish, keeping a driver is just an extra person to get injured

I’m not talking exclusively about avoiding collisions. What happens if something falls off? What happens if a tire goes flat. Who’s responsible for securing the cargo? What if the place you need to get to hasn’t been properly mapped?
You could do away with pilots entirely based on how good the technology is. But we don’t.
Write a law that requires people to be behind the wheel of any vehicle that uses public roads,
Problem solved.

Then their job will still not be the same. They will be paid min wage to babysit a machine, not the $120k+ they are getting now.

They get paid to be on The road away from their families in perpetuity, and to safeguard their cargo.
That’s not a minimum wage job.

He apparently did have a meeting or two with oil execs before his current tour. Could be nothing, but sure seems like he's just regurgitating oil lobby talking points.

CAPP wouldn't want that kind of PR liability.

if the driver isn't holding the wheel constantly using his rear view mirrors then he wont have a clue what's going on, he (or she) will be taking a nap or on their phones, the truck will pull over and call for help long before the driver knows whats going on.
As for securing loads and mapping all very easily solvable problems, pilots? frankly we still have pilots because the public isnt ready for a self flying plane but the technology is already there and Pilots now get paid nothing because they are mostly dead weight
Whether you or I like it self driving trucks and cars are going to replace us in a few decades, they will also kill off car ownership, which is a good thing frankly, we will all sit in the back seat of a vast fleet of self driving Ubers glued to our social media, cars and vans, trucks will all operate 24/7 without a break because computers dont get tired, they will drive slowly but as there will be few hold ups we wont complain as we will get to where ever reliably quicker

Ya, but think of how it will thin out the gear grinder thread. No more morons driving? It'll drop to page 2!
