The Lebanese government, including PM Hassan Diab, has resigned.

Hopefully Iran/Hezbollah doesn't take advantage of the power vacuum.

The current government was terrible, but it seems anytime a terrible regime fails in the ME, it becomes a case of, "be careful what you wish for".

Nice way for them to not take responsibility for the disaster or the cleanup. At least stick around for the interim under successor chosen.

It was a puppet regime anyway, and Hezbollah ran the port.

I think the Port was run by a Sunni faction opposed to Hezbollah actually

The new PM is appointed by parliament until the next election cycle.

The PM is also always a Sunni. They are appointed by the President, who is always a Maronite Christian.

I put it up there so that people that are looking at donating can make their decision based on max money to the right places.

Is the WE charity on the list? I’d prefer to donate directly to Trudeau’s friends and family.

Okay, well you couldn't have picked a more politically charged tweet insinuating something nefarious if you had tried.

I don't know what makes you think that. Was it the generally negative tone? The random use of capitalization? The hashtag "thisiswrong"? I don't know, weird take dude!

The tweet is also from someone who is clearly a dumb dumb, considering the original amount they'd match was maxed at $2 million, and then they upped it to $5 million when that was reached. When the original matching amount was mentioned (August 8), they stated where it had to go, but apparently this guy "JUST learned" it on August 12:

Quote:
“My message to Canadians is this: The best way that you can help is to donate money and for your contribution to be matched by the Government of Canada, donations must be made to the Humanitarian Coalition or one of its partners,” Gould said during a virtual press conference on Saturday morning.
The $25 million is not a matching amount, that's the money Canada is donating regardless of any matching.

Forensic analysis of the explosion including timelines, a reconstruction of the explosion itself, and all current available footage. Amazing what can be done now with a few pictures, video clips, publicly available maps, and computer modeling.

Hopefully this type detailed investigation work can prevent future tragedies.

Fantastic video. It also details how future tragedies were already prevented by careful modeling of the dangers by English and Australian authorities, and made available to the public. Absolute negligence in Beirut.

Great video. Given the scale of damage and lives lost I almost feel bad for enjoying it. But cool video nonetheless.
