Hamilton is a KNOWN commodity and one of the best dmen in the league, and this is what you trade him for? PLUS You add Fox? I'm ok with selling high on Ferland (although we didn't) but this is a GARBAGE deal.

Treliving needs to go back to Boston Pizza and run one of those. Not this team.

I still don't like the forwards. Lindholm is really not much of an upgrade. They'd better not throw in the towel here now.
Disagree.

He is miles better offensively than Ferland and still hasn't reached his prime years.

And i am a huge Ferland fan.

In my opinion, the Flames won this trade.

Between Hamilton and Ferland, they earn 7.5 million. Hanifin and Lindholm make 4.5. That frees up 3 million to sign another player on July 1st.

Add in that Ferland is basically a 4th line player, where Lindholm is a legit 2nd liner, that is a huge upgrade.

The difference between Hamilton and Hanifin is not that huge. Hanifin scored 10 goals last year, and could easily go on PP1 here and looks like he could be a legitimate replacement for Giordano down the line. Hamilton had a lot of issues.

I don't personally feel that Fox was going to sign here.

I like this trade, I can also see why some people wouldn't.

I will never listen to fox on the run the same again

For players that are in the NHL already, draft position means nothing.

Good to see there's no terrible overreactions being posted in this thread. I for one am okay with it. The inclusion of Fox makes me think that the Flames had an inkling that he may not sign with them. Pretty easy to see if you take half a second to think about it.

As for Hamilton and Ferland, I am slightly sad to see two productive players go, but they were pretty reliant on their linemates for their productivity, and I feel like the Flames management saw something they didn't like with these two, either compete level or personality-wise. As fans, it's probably something we didn't notice.

I hope this move helps the compete level on the team, brings the room together, and helps Lindholm and Hanafin reach their lofty potentials. Yeah, it was a big cost, but it could be a big win down the road if these two players take off in Calgary.

I can see another defenceman going out. All the rumblings suggest Andersson is ready. Stone perhaps?

This makes me wonder about a proposed trade (sorry I can't recall the poster) that suggested Stone to Ottawa for Pageau. That I could see being a nice compliment to this trade as Pageau could slide onto the 3LRW

I mean, I think we overpaid a bit, but I think the trade is not as bad as some are saying here.
Lindholm is better, especially as an all around player than Ferland, younger too.
Hanifin quite possibly could surpass Dougie or at least match him. 21 years old. Lots of room to grow. As well, with Dougie, seems like there is something up with him. 3rd team in his young career already? hmm.
Fox, who knows how he is gonna turn out, probably wasn't going to sign anyway with our D situation. Maybe we could've used him in another trade though. That's the part that gets me, I think.

Locker room probably needed a shake up.

Man this board over rates Fox. At BEST, fox is Ryan Ellis. He is not Nik Lidstrom.

Complete garbage
what if he never intended to sign with the flames and management knew?

and it's not like the guys we got back have no value, both are projected to be good players.

So lets not pretend its absolutely horrible, one of fox/ferland is probably too much, but it's not a completely horrible trade.

Uhh Ferlands not even close to the value of Lindholm. Ferland is a 3rd line power forward who just had his best season. Lindholm is a potential Monahan 2.0 with his best seasons ahead of him. Points dont tell the whole story

I think Lindholm is the type of guy I’ve been advocating they get because he’s a good two way player
The other wrinkle is that by getting Hanifin they still can move a d for a f

I like it. Clearly something is rotten in Denmark with Dougie. Don’t care much about losing Ferland or Fox, although the internet will hate the loss of a prospect. And love having Lindholm as another silent contributor with a bit of offensive punch. Seems like a win now sort of deal. It also speaks highly of Andersson.

Ferland had 21 goals last year. Lindholm has never come that close to 20. Here's hoping, I guess. I just don't get why the Flames are trying so hard to emulate the likes of Carolina and Arizona.

I bet the Oilers make a big push to Carolina to acquire Hamilton.
