Flames My proposed trade ideas (2024 Flames)

Calgary Flames trades
If Mikhail Sergachev is LTIR the rest of season:
Chris Tanev to Tampa Bay for Ethan Gauthier, 2024 3rd round pick, 2025 2nd round pick, and conditional 2nd round pick 2026
Condition: 2026 2nd round pick will convert to 2026 1st round pick if Tampa Bay advances to 2024 Eastern Conference Finals

If Boston is not part of Hanifin’s M-NTC
Noah Hanifin (25% RS) to Boston for Matt Grzelcyk, Fabian Lysell, 2025 1st round pick, conditional 2nd round pick 2026
Condition: 2026 2nd round pick will convert to 2026 1st round pick if Boston advances to 2024 Eastern Conference Finals

Jakob Markstrom to New Jersey for Alexander Holtz and conditional 1st round pick 2024
Condition: 2024 1st round pick is top-10 protected; if New Jersey misses the playoffs the following scenarios can happen:
1. If 2024 1st round pick is in top 10, New Jersey will have to send their 2025 1st round pick instead
2. If 2024 1st round pick is outside the top 10, New Jersey can choose to either send their 2024 1st round pick or 2025 1st round pick

Lineup after trades:
Huberdeau/Sharangovich/Holtz
Zary/Kadri/Pospisil
Mangiapane/Backlund/Coleman
Pelletier/Rooney/Kuzmenko

Grzelcyk/Andersson
Kylington/Weegar
Gilbert/Pachal

Vladar/Wolf

Scratches: Greer (IR), Oesterle, Hunt, Duehr

We should make a new trade thread everyday until the deadline passes.

Lets just abandon these big threads all together. Everyone gets a new one for each post!

Guy joined this month, clearly doesn't know how things work here. Let's all jump down his throat and ensure he never becomes a regular contributor here. This is the way.

What's the scoop on Ethan Gauthier? Does anyone have any opinions on him?

Seems like reasonable trades. I could see New Jersey asking for those conditions on the first round pick. Hedges their bets on the season and minimizes the risk on their side.

Scott Wheelers recent writeup:

Quote:
2. Ethan Gauthier, RW, 18 (Drummondville Voltigeurs)

Gauthier, the No. 1 pick in the 2021 QMJHL draft and son of former 10-year NHLer Denis Gauthier, is widely credited for his pro-style game and consistency. He had a strong showing at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup (where he scored six goals in five games). He had a strong draft year with a top team in Sherbrooke. He’s now having a strong post-draft season with another top team in Drummondville. He’s just a good hockey player. He’s not a star, but he’s a solid B-plus prospect who has an opportunity to become an up-and-down-the-lineup, plug-and-play NHLer.

He brings a lot to the table. He’s a versatile, hardworking player who excels in pretty much every facet of the game, gets to the middle of the ice, and makes plays around the net through skill and timing. He’s consistent shift-to-shift and game-to-game and while he might lack the dynamism of a true top prospect, he can make plays in a variety of ways on and off the puck and the ice usually tilts in his team’s favor when he’s out there (it’s also not a coincidence he has played on winning teams the last two years in the Q). He’s going to be an NHLer — I think the bigger question is whether he’s going to be more of a middle-six or bottom-six player who can jump up in a pinch. He’s a good, effective hockey player though, there’s no question about that. Detail, work ethic and pro habits can take a player a long way.

My guess for Tanev, return is likely an 2nd round - 2024 pick and low end prospect

Flames will try for a first, but end up with a 2nd,.

Devils are going to want retention which will require them to add to what is proposed.

So do the Devils fans on Reddit which I find mind bottling.

That's the absolute minimum deal and is probably tilted in the Devils favour.

maybe it's just me, but I just don't see it with Holtz. Still think a Markstrom trade to NJ is inevitable, but I hope Holtz isn't the centerpiece.

If the Flames would accept what is proposed here for Markstrom the trade would be done already, so yes, not going to cut it.

I'll be honest I'm worried the Flames are pushing a little too hard here.

If Holtz/Mercer, 2024 1st, and Vanecek is on the table then personally I think that's a great return even if they are eating 25%.

Now if they are being asked to eat 50% then that's a different discussion where I do think another 2nd or something like Casey would need to be added...but I really hope the Devils don't just go to another team then because I do think getting one of those one forwards and their 1st would be a coup.
