Nothing like the Hunter hit. Greig saw him coming and should have expected it. The Hunter hit was a blind side sucker punch during a normal goal celebration after a normal goal.

I remember this happening during the San Jose series in 2004. I think it was Simon who tuned the guy up after he hot dogged on an empty netter. Simon didn't miss a game.
Hunter hit him, it was not a punch. This also did not happen in the 2004 series, I was at the game. After the empty net goal there was a scrum and Simon sucker punched someone in the scrum. Totally different situation.

For the actions that transpired late in the game Saturday night, between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators, the Department of Player Saftey has suspended Connor Zary for six games.

Yup, Its a top Leaf Dman so will probably get 1 or 2 games. If it was a Flame it would be 10+.

There are few things that are more grating about hockey fans than the belief that players who show any personality at all deserve to get hurt.

But in the history of made up rules, it’s still one of the dumbest.

Yeah, only hockey players themselves think its disrespectful to score an empty net goal in any other way but letting it slide in. It's stupid. A goal's a goal.

Nowhere near the same, Korolok got a bump for stopping uo a bit on EN.

This Sens guy should've expected something coming his way by slapping it like that.

So why didn't he just slide it in?

I can't wait to watch the league come down hard on the Leafs. It'll be epic for sure.

Posted in the OOT before I saw this thread, but I think Reilly’s crosscheck was brutal and deserving of a suspension. Having said that, Greig was classless pulling that shot off in that situation so I can understand why he was upset.

He just went way overboard with it.

If he did that to the Flames you'd expect a reaction, no?

If the Flames just skated around ho-hum, most of this message board would be up in arms.

Imagine McDavid, Draisaitl, or Kane doing that against the Flames? A lot of people would be calling them out for it.

You can rub a guy into the boards, bump him, yap at him

Lots of ways to react short of cross check to the head

If a Flame did that against EDM the panel would be falling over themselves with disgust.

Since when is a punch delivered by means of a stick held in both hands?

Was thinking the same thing. Challenge him to a fight if you want but don’t blind side cross check him to the head when he can’t protect himself.

Lack of class slapping it in like that.

Even more classless (and dangerous) cross checking him in the face for doing it.

It’ll be 3 games.
