The challenge for the Flames is where to you play him in the lineup? I don't see a first line player. I think he's probably more a second or third line guy. He could bump Mangiapane out of the lineup and you probably would be in a much better place. That's where I see him as the best fit and it may give Conroy another opportunity to move on from a player that really does nothing for the club. Good opportunity for Coronato and the Flames.

I’m not worried about Coronato. He’s scoring well for a rookie in the AHL, and he’s actually got a reputation for being strong, hence the nickname, “The Buffalo”. I think the number 1 thing he needs is better skating. Skating can be improved. I hate to write the name, and I’m not comparing Coronato and him in any other sense, but Draisaitl is a recent example of a player who improved his skating through hard work.

Too soon to judge.
He has only played half a season vs grown men and is only recently turned 21.
Zary is a year older and had the better part of 2 AHL seasons before coming to the NHL and doing what he's doing.
I think people are comparing impacts and Coronato probably needs the rest of this season, maybe more in the AHL.

Andersson needs to work on his skating as well.

Is size really thought of an issue still? Either you have it or you don't.

Lindros era passed long ago.

Not sure his career will pan out as you forecast (at least in the shortbterm). Up to him, health and luck,

I think he needs to add more weight / muscle to not be bounced around by the opposing D. This is the size he needs, not height.

I thought he had one dangerous looking shift where he generated some chances. But he got out-muscled a lot and he seemed to be out of position/ on the wrong side of the puck often. He deserves more playing time but so far he is trending to be a great AHL player but borderline NHL player.
Didn't noticed too much of him in the BOA game. When I did notice him trying to carry the puck around the offensive zone boards, he's easily taken out and lost the pucks and the puck is going back the other way. It's a different league from the minors - definitely bigger, faster, and tougher in the big league.

It definitely matters if you are not fast enough

If you are small and slow they give you no room to operate

Over a PPG in his first pro season in the AHL.
Allstar selection.

Much like Pelletier and Zary I’m not worried.
His shot and offensive awareness is lights ahead of his progression.

Not even worried if he turns into that offensive threat PP guy only.
But his give a ____ meter is already present.
RHS sniper, something we haven’t seen since Iggy.

Agreed - the smaller you are, the better your skating has to be.

For example, if Matthew Phillips could skate like Gaudreau, he’d be Gaudreau. He’d have been in the NHL for half a decade or more as one of this team’s primary offensive weapons.

But because his skating is just okay, and he’s the size of a Keebler elf, he has 5 NHL points 7 years after he was drafted.

Coronato isn’t THAT small - he’s hockey player sized. He can fill out, get stronger, and become the player we expect him to be.

But he isn’t good enough right now.

The bottom line is that you have to be able to compete at the NHL level, against men. Zary is doing it, and he weights less than Coronato. It isn't just about size, but you need to find ways to win individual battles, whether it be speed, elusiveness, strength, physicality, brains, or whatever.

And right now, Coronato just isn't competitive enough.

Coronato seems too good not to be a player.

Leading the wranglers in his first pro season is nothing to sneeze at. And he works really hard.

He has the right ingredients, he just needs to figure out where to put his effort at the NHL level and refine that approach over time.

Even now, if they were getting him pucks in the right places he would be better than most at sniping a corner.

He is going to be a player for sure. Just not quite ready.

I mean, why not? This is the year to get him ready for what will hopefully be a full time season, next year.
