Medvedev closes it out 6-4 6-4 and ends the Novak match streak at 20 matches.
Edit: He has a history of snapping Djokovic winning streaks.

Longest match in Acapulco tourney history as far as time is concerned, Paul cramping, Fritz puking and cramping.

Rune starts fast but succumbs to the hot Mexican night. Still looks like this is going to be his big breakout season.

The humidity must have been really high last night because the on-court temperature gauge read 24 degrees Celsius. A little concerning that this isn't the first time we've seen Rune suffer from cramps, I'm sure they'll tweak his diet/fluids and figure it out eventually.

Meanwhile in Dubai, Medvedev is one game away from winning a third straight tourney.
Edit: There it is and it wasn't close, Danill takes it 6-2 6-2

Nice win for Katherine and up to #199 in the live rankings - She turned 24 earlier this year and is really starting to find some form.

Yeah, no Djokovic nor Nadal, Alcaraz is in doubt as well as Berrettini. The door is certainly open for a guy to take home his first Masters 1000 title.
/Medvedev comes in very hot, but he doesn't have a great run of play at this tourney (best ever result is making the 4th round).

It aligns with Djokovic's thoughts.
"1.3 billion people watch it, yet we can't have more than 400 people living from this sport, both men and women. I think we have to put that in our mind and really think about whether this sport is doing great or not".
I've mentioned before on here, I follow a Vietnamese player named Hoang Nam Ly. It's taken him 7 years to get to 250 in the world and he's made $100,000 career earnings. He's never played in a Grand Slam qualifying tournament, that's his goal this year. Just losing in Q1 if a Grand Slam gets you $17K. That's the equivalant of winning 5 matches at a Challenger 100.
And the women make pennies compared to that.

Aren't all of the Majors and 1000 level master events already equal pay across the board?
Just like other pro sports, I really don't see how many of these smaller WTA events could possibly offer the same payout as some of the smaller ATP men's events that are typically far larger draws, with major TV deals.
I think it is quite obtuse of some of these players like Djokovic and Shapo to be surprised that only so many players are making a comfortable living when they are in it, living and breathing it every day. There's a reason players like Vasek have meltdowns playing on the Challenger tour for months on end and at least he has had some serious success compared to others. Unless you're part of the elite 100 or so of each tour, you're likely struggling to make ends meet.
There's only so much sponsorship money to go around at these events, and once you push past that level, you are risking the longevity of events and passing the buck onto fans to pay more to attend. Would any of these top players be willing to cut their purses by say 25% in order to pass it down the line to qualifiers and and others that are typically booted from events in R1 or R2? Doubtful.

Any updates from his camp would be nice as it is starting to look like he's just not able to get over the hump to full health the longer this absence goes on.
