Blues trade their Captain

I made a major trade today with Anaheim


I sent them Mark Stone in exchange for Blake Wheeler, Jessie Puliujavi, Connor McKey a 2022 1st round draft pick and 1.5 million in cap.


The reasons


I love Stone, but something isn't working on this team, I also needed to build on my asset base. With Poolparty I get potential if he gets the McDavid bounce. McKey looks like a good defensive prospect that seems to be nearly NHL ready. I get a 1st round pick in a good draft year and the cap makes it revenue neutral. Blake Wheeler has good ratings so I can continue with my win now philosophy, and decide later on if I'm going to resign him or trade him for more assets.

The Wheeler trade never sat completely right with us. I liked the ratings upgrade, and Nylander wasn't doing a lot. But I just didn't see how I was going to sign Wheeler.

Maybe I should have let him go and just run with it, but instead went aggressively after Stone.

I give up a lot of futures in this trade, and have moved a lot of futures in the last week, but I like my team way more with Stone in it.
