All in all, today's trades were a roundabout way of getting me the #1 centre I've been looking for all offseason. It's been forever since I made a deal with Philly... glad to pull it off. I'm a huge fan of Hayes and have been asking for him forever.

Kevin Hayes gets no love at all on here.
Decent rating, multiple positions, and can be signed for 3 years.
My ask was a 1st and I didn't even get a single one offered. Quite shocked about that, especially seeing other forward moves made. I think many teams missed out.

Scorp tried to snag Hayes earlier this summer but when he got Murray, I knew there was a deal to be made. I needed a back up and love that I can ink him for cheap right now. If Jarry fizzles out and Murray recaptures his starting role, this works out well for us.

I don't have the AHL space so an ECHL bean and the pick made sense for us.

I think this one works really well for both teams.

Overall this is a good trade for the NYI and the moves for Staal and Hayes has made their center depth is much better than it was a week ago, but it remains to be seen how the NYI will make this roster work.

A week ago the NYI had finally found themselves under the cap with near a full roster, but now with the moves to acquire Staal and Hayes they find themselves over the cap with only 17 players on the roster. They have Francouz and Schultz currently listed on their roster here but need to get $6.75M under the cap to be able to sign those players.

In the end this move might end up being 1 step forward, 2 steps back for the NYI who have had a tough offseason so far this year.
