I think about this all the time. That’s why my Will states that when I die, my cat will be buried alive with me. Mr Burns/Smithers style.

I saw a plea for someone to adopt a senior cat on Twitter over the weekend. The kitty was 19 years old and had been surrendered to a shelter. Heartbreaking a pet that age, probably an elderly owner or something. I think it was in Maine. Someone had replied in the comments that they lived nearby and would call the next day about it, but I didn't see any follow up. I know pets are good companions for older people, but plans have to be in place for who will care for the pet if the pet outlives the owner! Surrendering to a shelter in that case is just cruel.

Yah I was just away from my 7 month old pup for the first time this past weekend. 4 days and my wife said he kept going to the Mud room looking for me and sitting at the front door.
Made me sad!
Were leaving him for 8 days with my mom last this month. Hopefully he does better.

I was really hoping it wagged, even though I knew it would lack the … connectivity?... to do so being located on the skull and all.

Turns out I am a cat whisperer. 8/8.
Ooo, there is advanced one. Got 6/8 on that.

I got 7/8 on the first, and 8/8 on the advanced.
Yet I still manage to annoy my cats by choosing the wrong time to pick them up.

If it's too cold, you can bring your dog to South Centre if you want. I think Sunridge allows them too and some other larger stores around town.

We love seeing pups in our Centre & they’re welcome to join you on your shopping trip! We do ask that: - Dogs remain outside of the Food Court - Owners come prepared for any messes - Each retailer’s policy on dogs is respected Hope to see you and your doggies soon! 9:47 AM · Jan 12, 2020·Twitter for iPhone

Sounds like a good idea as long as the dogs don't get loose. I could imagine my dog would make a bee-line into a women's clothing store using the most expensive dress as his chew blanket.

Is this an ongoing thing? Or only for the cold spell?
My 16.5 year old doggie does not like the cold yet refuses to wear any sort of bootie or sock.

I'm not sure. I know it was just announced yesterday and the weather is really cold. But I don't know if it's ongoing or if it had been allowed previously. I've had my dog in that mall before but just to the bank where he's allowed. And they have a vet in the mall so you'd have to be able to take your dog there.

Oh i just talked to a coworker and she says it's an ongoing thing. Don't go if you have a new puppy though or you won't get a chance to even walk around!

I just had an anxiety attack that I'd left my dog outside in this weather when I drove to work... I did NOT, she is safe inside.
But, as a reminder to others, make sure and then make double sure you have left them inside today!

It is not quite as cold down here in Lethbridge, but it is still very cold. We have cut the length of our walks in half. Walking in the cold sure is good for a quick pace though. He doesn't stop to sniff as much, especially on the back half of the walk.
Normally he is distracted by every single leaf, rock, debris, person along the walk, but when its this cold he rushes the pace. It's like he is saying "C'mon people, let's go. You can move faster. I have your warm bed to sleep in!"

I wish my dog didn’t like the cold. Unfortunately, our walks aren’t any shorter until it hits -35C. Yesterday, she rolled in snowbanks and covered her face in snow a half dozen times.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but does anyone have any recommendations for a small/medium breed of dog that will do well with a smallish yard(I live in a townhouse) but will be walked/run for about an hour everyday? I would like a dog that likes to run, I run 5-6 miles everyday, and does well in our climate( fairly warm in the summer and cold in the winter.
Do any breeds jump out to anyone that fit that description? Looking for breeds around 30-50lbs max.
