I want Trump to go to jail on state charges AND win 2024 just to see what that'd be like.

Then its up to the public to choose punishment

He is betting on winning the election which if he wins he can make it go away. If he loses I could see him move all his assets to a country with no extradition agreement with the US and fly away. Or course he will cry they stole the election again too.

He won't go to jail. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like but I don't think there is any way Donald Trump ends up in office again. If he wins he will get bumped off. There is too much at stake to let that lunatic run things again.

If you read the indictment, it's like 40 pages of just people explaining to him that all his claims about election fraud are false, and then him ignoring that and just repeating them ad nauseum lime he can't hear words that don't align with his preferred version of reality. It's quintessential Trump.

This cliche/meme makes it sound like he keeps getting exonerated. He's generally lost every legal battle/impeachment so far, and every criminal case is still pending trial.

So what are the chances that any of these 3 cases are decided before the election date? And if Trump wins the general election, what if a case is decided against him before inauguration? And finally, after inauguration, can he simply pardon himself and make this all go away (legally at least)?

No president can pardon state crimes, so the charges in Georgia (that are coming), and the New York tax charges are important.
But also remember that a pardon means that he would admit being guilty.
Being guilty of many of these charges should mean he's ineligible to run. Guilty of these treason related charges, and being allowed to be president? I suspect that its not going to work that way.

Trump won't see jail time. He'll make a plea deal at the last minute and it will preclude him from running for office ever again. He'll get to keep all his PAC money as part of the deal, but he'll spend the rest of his days hitting shanks at Mar-a-lago. Everybody wins and everybody loses.

Trump could pull a Putin maneuver and install a proxy candidate of his choosing. It won't be DeSantis.

of course you would have the spectacle of a sitting President who couldnt go to either Georgia or New York for fear of arrest but he could still avoid jail that way

There is no law barring him from being president if found guilty in any of this,

What about the 14th amendment?
Quote:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

My research on it says it’s unlikely, first of all he’s not being charged with treason. I think also that it would have to be done state by state by getting him off the ballot, so good luck with that. Hard to believe this is even a question
, how the smoking remnant of the Republican Party is still supporting a guy like this is quite the mess.

I don't think it even gets to the point where there's a verdict before the 2024 election. That would be pretty speedy for the U.S. judicial system, no?
