Default Best place for ww2 model kits

My 10 year old son is face aged with ww2 and instead of legos I’m going to try him on model kits. Where’s the best place in Calgary to get models (easy to start don’t need $400 Normandy diorama

Modelland probably has the most varied selection and the best selection of paints and supplies. PM Hobbycraft has a bunch too.

PM Hobby has a good selection of WWII vehicles, tanks and artillery. Planes they are fairly limited on for WWII, most of their plane kits are more modern.

This place is pretty cool if you model... but boy, I couldn't imagine trying to track inventory at that place.

Do the kits give a recommended colour to match? I don’t model myself and know nothing about it. What should I expect to have to invest to start? Glue, brushes, paints, knife, case to hold it all?

From memory as a kid the models list colours and usually identify what paint paint goes on what part to spec it out. I have fond memories of model building and every time I think about it it’s something I think would be fun to try again a hundred years later.

Some do, for example Tamiya kits may have a recommended Tamiya color.

In general, you'll find paint kits or colors that refer to a country and model type. For example US navy grey, or german tank colors. And for a kid, a water based acryillic may be a good start, such as Vallejo. The model store guys will talk your ear off if you ask for help and can certainly give better advice maybe.

I loved doing that as a kid. From airplanes to submarines it was a great hobby to have back then

This guy posted quite a few videos building models. You can learn a few things from watching his videos:
