Oh, I found it had a bitter after taste that lingers. Maybe that’s freshness related. And it’s brittle. Sticky crumbs are the worst.

Came to post this also. A couple of dozen Calgary vendors have teamed up to for online food ordering with their own delivery service, since they were getting burned by the massive fees from Skip and Ubereats.

For some reason I expected bestofcalgaryfoods.com to be a train wreck but the website is actually nice and useable, some good stuff on there. Recommend.

Edit: I mean 5 stars.

I have a friend that creates whimsical art for kids rooms/nursery’s. She also has a few books out which have Alberta at their roots.

Check out her work!

Jen's stuff is great. I sent a few of her paintings and books to my nieces. Highly recommended.

A handful of my favourites, with a focus on what I think are great places to get gifts for friends/loved ones:

Milk Jar Candle Co: Started up in 2016, all their candles are clean burning and $1 from every candle is donated to a local non-profit. They sell their candles at a few places around Calgary, and also offer curbside pickup in the NE. The candles are hand poured, have wood wicks and can burn up to 55 hours.

Silk Road Spice Merchant: This is my absolute favourite place to get spices in the city. They’re home base is in Inglewood, but they also sell their spices at the Calgary Farmers Market. Try their Ardano Smoked Sea Salt. Seriously.

Lowen’s Natural Skincare: these guys are family owned & operated and I’ve used their products a number of times for myself and for gifts. According to their website, they source local for their ingredients as much as possible.

Spragg’s Meat Shop: this is my favourite local butcher/meat shop, with their farm in Rosemary, AB. They mainly raise pigs, and they’re all raised in open pastures.

And some others:

Blush Lane Organic Market: https://www.blushlane.com/

If I can stretch the location a bit, there is a shoe company in Vancouver that makes the most comfortable shoes on the planet. Vessi Shoes. They are not produced locally though, FYI, still made in taiwan and china.

If you've never worn mesh shoes, they are amazing. Most performance shoes are going this direction (running, trainers etc) and they feel like sex on your feet. Vessi's are designed as more casual shoes and unlike most performance mesh shoes, they are waterproof.

This at least keeps your money away from massive multinational conglomerates. They have a decent Black Friday sale on now.

Surferguy is incredibly talented. Can’t say enough about the experience getting a custom cutting board done through him for a housewarming/wedding gift. Hoping for more weddings on 2021 so we can get some more done up!

What’s the story with the artwork? Looks really great!

Thanks man. These images are approx 16” in diameter but on 24” x 30” paper, they be big!

They are wood block prints of a cedar tree cookie which was originally located on North Vancouver Island. I prepared the surface to raise the individual growth rings. Once ready I could do a ink print relief from the face of the cookie with the results you see in the photo. Each piece is a unique art print.

Wanted to bump this in light of the new additional measures. Going to be a rough go for local business.

The owners are flames fans too. They used to sit right in front of me till last season, till they upgraded to seats right behind the flames bench.
