Tkachuk, with a long term contract extension, would make the most sense.
As much as I like Tanev, Backs and Lucic, I don't think the next captain should be someone who is on his last contract with the Flames, and likely gone in 3 years or less

They'll just make Sutter the Coach/Captain.

I was thinking Sutter as well lol, but I think it will be Monahan or possibly even Tkachuk.

I just don’t think the C should be a player in danger of being healthy scratched. That disqualifies Lucic for me, even though I think he might be the best C material.

I don’t like the idea of any of Lucic, Tanev or Backlund as captain.
They are all leaders but are more complimentary- should be A’s instead of C’s..

I don’t see a need for the captain to be one of your stars. TB did fine with theirs.

Stamkos isn’t a star? The NHL these days is a all about marketing stars and big sponsorships. Tkachuk fits that but that’s only if he actually staying.

I feel the captain has to be able to drop the gloves occasionally. So I don't think it should be Tanev.
Nothing worse than seeing your "captain" refuse to fight and get speed bagged by someone smaller (see, Sedin and Marchand).
Backlund is willing to drop the gloves, he's just not very good at it.
Tkachuk is the guy who ALWAYS sticks up for his teammates and defends them when the opposition takes liberties with them, that is captain material; however, there are some maturity issues there.
Lucic really makes the most sense to me. He works hard, gives it his all. He looks like he can still play a regular shift at least until the end of his contract. He seems like the leader in the room anyways.

Honestly I hope the team gets burned down at the trade deadline/next off-season, meaning that at the end of the day I don’t really care who is captain anymore.

This team needs some snark and I dont know whats happening with Chucky.
At this point they may as well stitch the 'C' onto Harvey.

Whether or not he is made captain this is now Tkachuk's team.
It as though management has spent the summer fixing the team that didn't want to back his over the top combative play.

This is a coach sutter decision and not a gm sutter decision. So I will trust in whatever he does. A gm sutter decision like Gudbranson is where I’m not a fan

Thinking allot about this but I like Eat bread as a captain.
Maybe not the most vocal guy.....the effort is there, the fans love him and he's easy to coach.
Quite honestly there's not another player like Andrew on the roster.
That interview on YouTube with Darryl getting interviewed by Dale Hodge when Sutter was captain of the hawks made me think of this.
Sutter wasn't a huge points leader and was injured quite a bit in 85 but when you listen to that interview it's like he already knew what Hodge was going to ask.
I see leadership qualities in Andrew and team Canada didn't start kicking ass at the world's until he suited up for the team and then they turned things around.

Tanev is an admirable player for sure but the captain needs to be one of the elite guys on the team. They need the accountability to score the clutch goal or make the big play when it matters most. The team is going to live or die by its star players, so one of them needs to take the mantle.
