I read this story about Sweden and how they're not in the tournament.

Yeah, it was 12 years without winning in regulation (weird that they would have bothered quoting that).

That American team still scares me. It’s likely we’ll see them again in the final and it will be a different team.

Will we have our captain back soon?

IIRC, the commentators said it's been 12 years since we've beaten the Americans at the WWHC, 13 years since we've beat them in regulation.

So did I hear right, Canada outshot Germany 52-3 in a playoff game? Time for a different playoff format. Let the other teams fight and the two remaining teams get US and Canada.

The other countries are getting better… but Canada and the US are also getting better.

A shot count of 52-3 is kind of a joke in a playoff game.

Women’s hockey is a joke.

I still watch Canada-U.S. games, however.

That was how the tourney went until 2019 when it was expanded to 10 teams.

Any word on fans being allowed in for the gold medal game? Would be neat to see a gold medal game in that arena.

I think that's highly unlikely at this point with rising cases, but you never know.

Hockey Canada kept the option of selling tickets for the playoff round open when the tournament began, but the organization and the host committee ultimately decided against it.

Up to 120 family members are allowed into a dedicated section of the arena.

That's unfortunate.. The risk to the tournament and players is essentially zero at that point. But IT's understandable I suppose.

Semi finals tonight and TSN isn’t showing it on the main channel.

Canada advances. Best four teams in the world and in one game the shots are 65 to 10.

There was a time when it was this lopsided on the men's side as well (and worse).

But the lesser teams catch up. It takes time, but they do close the gap.

The problem that the women face is funding - some countries just don't support the womens' programs. Hopefully that changes and things get better soon.

There have been some lopsided games in men's ice hockey history but among top four teams in the world? I suppose it's possible, baseball didn't always have home run fences and football didn't always have the forward pass either.

I have no beef with women's hockey. I enjoy watching US and Canada play. My point is that a world championship tournament loses most of its credibility when two teams dominate to such an extent. No one is getting better through being crushed and not touching the puck for 60 minutes.

Is there any team sport that holds a world championship with this much imbalance?

No, but they do get better by training and playing with Canadian and US players during the course of the year. We are seeing more 'foreign' players in the NCAA. It's hard to measure because the US and Canada are continually raising the bar too but if you compared the skill levels on some of these teams even 5 years ago to what they are today I think it would show all the teams are better.

What a flipping joke that the final of the women’s hockey championship is not on either TSN 1 or TSN 2. So my father who lives here in a nursing home and would love to watch this game instead he has to watch tennis or UFC. They couldn’t put this game on either of the top two stations which are available on basic cable? Ridiculous!!
