Very nice. Finally the bats wake up here. Vlad is so patient at the plate too.

I’m not sure about the grammar on that sign.

That's the thing, it's not just the power. He leads the league in total bases (by a LOT) in no small part due to the 80 walks he has taken.
Total bases this year (to me, an under-rated stat):
Guerrero: 337
Semien: 320
Perez: 310
no one else has 300

The MVP vote should be given more credit to Vlad. Ohtani's pitching numbers aren't too crazy, as well his average isn't all that great. He's got a unique skillset without any question, but to the extent that people are making it out as a run away win, I don't agree with as Vlad's batting numbers are wild.

His hitting numbers are basically what Siemen is doing and his pitching numbers are very good.
Now he has hit .200 for the last 6 weeks so if he continue for the next 2 and vladdy can hit some high leverage HRs there is a slight opening, as voters tend to remember what has happened recently

Totally. I think it's closer than people are giving Vlad credit for. It's super elite hitting. Again, Ohtani has a unique skillset, but how much of the credit is he getting because he's a pitcher hitting HR's and stealing bases? That's the first thing to come to mind when you think of when you think of Ohtani. Vlad's batting numbers are great across the board.

Just got tickets for next Friday's game. Can't wait.
Edit: the Baltimore series. Week after next. Damn.

I wrote a long, well thought out post about the three division winners and the next two best teams making the playoffs, with the teams being ranked 1-5 based on point totals, but it disappeared on me. I’m lazy, so I’ll summarize.
In the AL, It would add even more excitement to these final weeks, if the rules allowed the wild card teams to reel in the white socks, and steal the third seeding.
In the NL, it is a shame the two best teams (based on points) are locked into position 1 and 4, while team a like the Brewers are locked into second place.

Nice job by the bullpen today. 10 outs, no runs, one hit. Ever since they added Richards and Cimber it's been a hugely improved unit.

Looking at the Yankees and Red Sox's schedules, I think the team to kick out will be the Yankees. The Red Sox have a very favorable schedule.

All three have pretty favorable schedules imo, but it's going to be a matter of who can screw up less games. Most good teams will take 2 of 3, even against bad teams. It really will come down to who can win a full series, and of course if the Jays can take the majority of the Yanks series next week. Yanks are looking pretty shaky.

Walks do not count toward total bases. Only bases gained by hits do.

The Sox have had the anomaly of an easy schedule all season. Its been kind of funny following the strength of schedule standings through the season and the Sox always at or near the bottom. They started the season playing good teams who were struggling and just carried that luck though the schedule. Credit where credit is due they won the games they needed. But they've been a .500 team for 4 months now and riding their hot start to the playoffs. I'd love to see them somehow choke this away but their pitching seems just good enough.

I'm taking odd pleasure in watching the Mariners finally implode and fall out of it. Probably because they bull####ted their way to 4 victories over the Jays that they had no business winning.
