Cut out my informative post that started this discussion!

Maybe it's poor recollection from student days but I used to actually really enjoy their soups and sandwiches and even some of their breakfast items were actually decent. Now everything tastes like cardboard. They have soggy potato wedges. Their hashbrowns taste like sawdust (I guess maybe they always have because they don't have proper deep fryers and just reheat them) and some of their baked goods were good too. You can tell all their food comes out of plastic bags and is reheated now.

I'm not a donut or coffee snob so I actually prefer Timmy's innocuous coffee and donuts to Jelly Modern or anything like that. It's just too rich or fancy for what to me seems like a commodity/junk food. I'm not going to reject a box of Jelly Modern when a vendor brings one into a meeting. I'll admit they are delicious, but I would never buy one on my own.

I don't know who made the donuts for Texas Donut Day but it sounds like there is a bakery in Huntington Hills that still makes the donuts. I might stop by sometime next month to see if I can get some. My new commute to work goes right by that bakery.

I stopped by the Canyon Meadows bakery the other day. Great cinnamon buns and pastries, however the donuts were pretty meh. Compared them to Safeway on an off day.

I think that may be part of the problem. If donuts are an after-thought; they probably don't turn out well.

Those artisans at Safeway know what they are doing with donuts and donut related stuff.

I miss Krispy Kreme donuts as well. My wife worked at the donut mill for a short period of time, she never wants me to visit there again

Just an FYI, Safeway doesn't make their doughnuts, it is contracted out to another company. I know this because when we found hunk of plastic in one it was "don't look at us!"

I do remember them being good though. That croissant must have 8000 calories, you can actually ring the grease out of it.

Sigh. I miss a good doughnut. Anyone ever find a good gluten free one? I found one in Florence that was really good, but it's a long trip.

Wait is this true for Safeway?

I have gone to the one in downtown Dead Rear and they are piping hot "out of the oven".

Could be just Calgary? It may have changed since Sobey's took them over too, but she said they didn't make them. This was about 5 years ago.

That's it then. I am going to hit Safeway tomorrow morning to get donuts for the office.

I will ask and report back.

I wish there were some Robin's Donuts around town. Their donuts were always fresh and their coffee was good too.

Native Tounges desert doughnut is the best doughnut on the face of the earth. Simple glazed in house made daily. Just amazing.

I went into Robin's Donuts in Winnipeg not too long ago. The donuts were terrible; worse than Tim Hortons. Like 2 day old donuts at best.

I didn't even know Robin's was still around.

I thought Robin's went the way of the Dodo.

They are still popular in eastern Canada.
