He's one of the best, if not the best, in the league. And he plays it a lot as well. When you are as active as he is there is bound to be the odd gaffe.
He can also get the puck moving in the other direction in a hurry as well. I think the good outweighs the bad.

Calling Smith bad at playing the puck is like saying Gaudreau is a bad puck handler when he gives it away.
The best players have the highest amount of giveaways because they handle it more than the other players who can only manage a dump/chip.
