Monahan enjoying best start since rookie year with Flames
Thanks to Saturday’s tap-in at the end of second period of an eventual 4-2 loss to the Minneosta Wild, Monahan now has five goals and three assists in eight games and is cruising on a three-game scoring streak. The 23-year-old is now sitting behind linemate Johnny Gaudreau who has two goals and nine assists in the same span.
Considering it was a personal mission of Monahan to have a better start to the campaign — ditto for Gaudreau — it appears the first-line centreman is well on his way.
Francis: Jankowski just the tonic Flames need for listless start
It’s time to reward one of the most patient prospects in recent Flames lore, not only for his stellar training camp but for his yeoman’s work on the farm thus far.
More importantly for the Flames it’s time to put a halt to the stubborn belief Sam Bennett is capable of contributing up the middle just yet.
He’s hurting, not helping, this team in his current role as a third line centre.
A lower body injury to Jaromir Jagr early Saturday opened the door the organization to right a few wrongs by summoning Jankowski from Stockton where he’s scored five times in six games and added three assists.
His dominance there includes being plus-8 with a whopping 23 shots on goal.
Enough is enough.
Total Recall: Has it Ever Happened? What if Calgary Called up Stockton's Entire Top Line
Pause for a moment and ask yourself, what if the Flames did the unconventional thing. What if Calgary did that one unthinkable thing that nobody would ever expect them to do.
It would be the type of bold hockey transaction(s) that would set off a tsunami of euphoria in the currently disgruntled C of Red.
Imagine, just imagine, if you woke up Monday morning to see this on the transaction wire:
- Calgary assigns C Freddie Hamilton to Stockton (AHL)
- Calgary assigns LW Tanner Glass to Stockton (AHL)
- Calgary places RW Jaromir Jagr on injured reserve
- Calgary recalls C Mark Jankowski from Stockton (AHL)
- Calgary recalls LW Andrew Mangiapane from Stockton (AHL)
- Calgary recalls RW Garnet Hathaway from Stockton (AHL)

Call up the entire Janko line? I would love that.
I think the Flames have forgotten that they are supposed to be providing some entertainment in addition to building a competitive hockey club.
You don't have to be a slave to "the process" 100% of the time.

Hard to feel bad for a pro athlete... but I feel bad for Hathway not sticking with the big club and watching Familton and Glass get regular shifts.
Hathway is the EXACT player you want on the 4th. Energy guy who will chip in much more than Familton or Glass ever would. Stajan is acceptable because he's also a good PKer.
