Not really. I went to the Calgary Flames first game at the corral in 1980 and have been a fan ever since. I was a season ticket holder for many years.

The core of this team has not delivered when it matters most. This edition of the team just isn't good enough.

Changes need to be made.

The fans deserve a team that is built to win in the playoffs. That's really only happened a few times in 39 years.

There has to be some accountability at some point.

I was at that game and also had season tickets for many years. I totally agree with you.

After reading through this thread I think trading Gaudreau would be a mistake... I can’t imagine a scenario where we trade him and get better.

I agree...especially when the player is in a slump and the team is struggling you almost always lose those deals

Gaudreau will lite it up wherever he goes...especially if he isn't the only high end offensive player on that team

Love that photo. Chouinard interacting with a fan at the top right.

Definitely not the first home game though. Jaime Hislop was acquired through trade after start of season.

And I don’t think Beers made the team that year at all either. So maybe season 2 in Calgary?

i still think the answer is you move out some D for a quality centre (think Ryan O'Reilly type) whenever the opportunity presents itself either now up to the deadline, or in the off season.

Its been said many times and in Haynes article how we have a number of very young D coming up and have played beyond their years; make no mistake, they are very good, imagine when they cross their prime. Just think when Valimaki gets back, some guys are immediately expendable if he picks up where he left off.

Some teams yearn for guys like Brodie and Hamonic, and they will pay a price for them. If we can package them for centre depth I think that adds a definitive dimension to this team where Backlund is not expected to be producing in a 2nd line role and Monahan can be himself.

We have many assets that, in a shrewd move like the Carolina deal, can fill those holes up front. Specifically at centre.

well, depending on how things go, Calgary might have to trade him in a year or two anyways...

i get that's a bridge we cross when we get to it, but Gaudreau may force that decision down the road

Couturier > Gaudreau. Elite #1 shutdown centre who scored 30+ the last two years, elite at faceoffs, and also still on a great contract. Reading all these proposals where Philly gives up Couturier+ drives me mad.

I just don't see a Gaudreau trade paying off for the Flames. For the money he's paid, he's worth every penny, and he's one of the top 5 most entertaining players in the game today. That alone is worth a lot to any team, particularly during the mid season blah games where you sometimes need another reason to watch.

He's not paid to carry this team and shouldn't be expected to. There are other players who could be targeted to fill that role, and other players that could be traded to get them.

“Elite” would be scoring 99 points.

Couturier has been the #1 and #2 centre on a consistently lacklustre Flyers team.

Gaudreau > Couturier, but yes - Couturier is very, very good.

Konecny, Patrick and a 2nd round pick for JG seems fair to me.
