I hope we land Drouin but the core and 1st rounder are off limits. Not too many prospects I wouldn't part with for Drouin (I do t see them having interest in Gillies)

With Polak off the market, Hamhuis and Russell are the best defensive pieces left and Russell carries a cap friendly salary. I see a first rounder based on the laws of supply and demand alone

We may not be able to trade Russell if he doesn't get back from injury soon. Not sure how many playoff teams are gonna be interested if he's still out come next Monday.
Things seem very much up in the air with Russell's injury and Wideman's suspension. I'd still expect one of Russell, Wideman or Engelland to move in the next week.

I have a feeling Russell has something minor bugging him but given how close the deadline is he has been scratched for precautionary reasons. I think if we needed him to play he could but why risk turning a minor injury into something bigger type deal.

On Russell re-signing in Calgary:

Last I checked, they were still talking. But I think it's more likely than not he gets dealt. Reported last week CAL was hoping to get a long-term possibility in goal, but that might be hard for a rental.

Think the Flames are trying for Russell + Something to Pittsburgh for their AHL goalie Murray.

Do you think there's any chance the stars deal Nichhushkin? Aren't the Stars looking for help on D?

They're going to want a player under long term control too if they were to deal Nich. Poirier I'd move in a heartbeat for Nichushkin.
Still, I think the Flames are going to go really hard for a goalie. One can dream of having Nichushkin on Monahan-Gaudreaus wing for years though. Boy that'd be something.

I hope this is a typo.

The Flames probably didn't want Russell nursing something going into the trade deadline

Murray is maybe worth a 2nd round pick and a B-C level prospect. I'd say something along the lines of Russell and Hathaway/Morrison would be sufficient. Murray hasn't proven anything at the NHL level, so there is still a load of risk to assume with taking him as the centerpiece in a deal. You may be trading for a career AHLer.

I think you're getting a little too excited...
I think if they did deal Nichhushkin, they'd want help now and something for the future just like Tampa and Drouin. They're in win now mode so want something to help them but they still want something long term.

Eklund speculates:
weise -> rangers, devils, preds
hartnell -> pens, kings
ladd -> speculates that this may be only FA that costs a 1st round pick... Rangers, ducks, hawks
bozak -> ducks made an offer
