The Flames just traded a UDFA for a third round pick.

Can't imagine living in that head space.

More power to you though.

But if you're finding a downside in a free asset you're probably not enjoying being a fan all that much.

Yeah, his first pro contract was an AHL deal signed by Burke/Conroy in 2014.

After a strong season in Adirondack, Treliving signed him to an NHL ELC in 2015.

I don't get some people who are always down. Why bother following sports?

It doesn't matter what sport you follow, there is only one team that wins it all. Often, one team wins multiple titles too.

All you do as a fan is enjoy the rollercoaster of your fandom. There will be moments where it is fun and exciting, moments when it becomes frustrating and even boring. Maybe I am a bit weird, but after experiencing the frustrating and boring times, it just makes me appreciate those really good moments even more.

If people really carry around this pessimistic attitude in following their favourite team, maybe they are just not cut out for being a sports fan? Maybe they are better off just being a bandwagon fan? I don't know. I just know that if I continually thought so poor of the team I cheered for at all times, it would be difficult for me to reconcile spending money on them, spending my time watching games, and as sure as heck I wouldn't be going out of my way to spend my time arguing about them on a forum with a bunch of strangers.

It is one thing to disagree with the direction of the team, or what they should or shouldn't do, etc. It is another to constantly live in despair that way.

I didn’t say anything about downside. Did I?

Just expectations based on history and you can’t deny that

There are plenty of people that have commented with free asset, usually doesn't work out but what the heck.

That's a neutral reaction.

Calgary is getting some solid production/impact from Philps and Mackey this year. Both free agent signings.

Isn't Seattle in a position now to sign undrafted college and junior free agents?

Not yet. According to Ron Francis, Seattle's ownership group makes their final payment at the end of this month. Once that happens they can start making trades and signing players.

Vegas was more proactive on that front IIRC, making sure their payment was in a bit earlier so they would have the same window as the other 30 teams.

That's how I recall it too.
