Correct on both.
There is some debate as to whether Peter Criss really placed such an ad. Could be an urban legend.
Keith Moon approached Roger Daltry to join the Who.

Correct. Brian May placed the ad and formed Smile with Roger Taylor. They later met Farrokh Bulsara (who changed his name to Freddie Mercury), and they became Queen.

Trout, that was Joan Jett looking for her Blackhearts. She had a tough time for a while after the Runaways, with her solo work being rejected by 23 record companies. So she and a partner founded Blackheart records. And the rest is herstory.
Stang, was that the Crue?/Mick Mars? Or maybe I'm just thinking of the documentary This one's driving me nuts because I know I read the story behind it somewhere grrrrr
