No the problem is coaching, you don't play Lucic and Bennett against one of the best offensive players in the league. You also don't play them in the last few minutes of the game when you have the goalie pulled and are trying to tie the game.

Ward lost this game. Brain dead coaching decision to put Lucic-Backlund-Bennett out against Matthews and Marner on back-to-back shifts. Terrible matchup that cost the team the game.

- An inability to be in sync led to a slow start
- no quit & a great comeback.
- Lots of lessons.
- Lots of guys gaining confidence (Gaudreau, Lucic, Valimaki... etc)

Terrible first period.
Markstrom not as good tonight and probably a couple he wants back (rebound was not good on the first goal, 4th not great either)
Backlund & Bennett were both bad. Really the whole bottom 6 was useless again.
Lindholm line has no finish.
At least the Monahan line looked good again. Gaudreau and Monahan both had some really nice passes and plays tonight.

Positives:
-I thought Hanafin, Tanev, Nestorov all played great! The D is solid this year and I am actually concerned about losing Tanev in expansion and hope we will be able to re-sign Nestorov.
-Lucic and Bennett played better. Keep them together.
-Gaudreau played great.
Aside from the first, they were fantastic. No true goats IMO.
On to the next matchup which will be tough. Montreal's home opener...they will be fired up.
