And gear. Seriously, why is he even a goalie?

Oooh, interesting. I'll reserve judgment until I see the finished project, but I don't think I've ever seen a helmet/cage combo paint job like that.

Vernie's CCM/HM30 combo was a classic:

Man, tough crowd. I love that. Smith gear is great. and now he has a mask with none of his kids on it whilst honoring Vernon. tough crowd indeed.

I universally hate masks that have ears painted on them. There have been several in the league and they are all weird.

When I saw the original post that he was going to have a Vernon tribute mask, I almost made a joke post that I hoped it would be the helmet/cage combo that Vernon wore in 1989.

I didn't think he'd actually do it.

Looks pretty boring in the front view.

Mmmm, retro gear.

I retract my gear comment. Retro Flames goalie gear is the best looking goalie gear in history. I just love it.

You can see the Cooper chin sling but you can't really make out any of the details on the CCM helmet. Too dark to see anything in that photo. Also looks like it's a matte finish for some reason:

His Wile E Coyote mask was great. This mask could be cooler if it was just painted to look like an old school helmet. The fleshy parts of it ruin it.

His Coyote masks were nice and I really liked his Olympic mask. I haven't liked any of the masks he has worn as a Flame.

I'm always weirded out by ears painted on the mask. Price and (I think) Miller did that too. Creepy.

The original Steve Shields mask (Cheevers tribute) was brilliant:

On the other hand, this monstrosity is easily one of the worst of all time:

Yeah, the eyes and mouth on Price's mask were just horrific. Much worse than the ears, which are just weird.

I think it would look much better if they had just made the entire mask stitches.

We get what the nod to the past is.

We don't need to see hair and ears on the side of the mask to understand it.

I love it! Easily his best mask he has had as a Flame. I'm excited to see his full retro set up.
